Title: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on August 14, 2011, 07:35:13 pm
The Wings of Hall

Introduction
We'll play in the world of Annial, a large, mostly medieval fantasy world. We'll develop the world as needed, but we'll start in the broken kingdom of Nantii, a once powerful feudal kingdom ravaged by all vs. all civil war, where every high noble is aiming for the crown and the lower nobles have all chosen their sides. We're a small but relatively famous mercenary group called The Wings of Hall, and we've been hired by a duke fighting for the crown.

Technical Info
We'll play storytelling, which means there will be no throwing dice, no stats, just writing a story where every character has their own writer. We'll take turns, though there's a set of exceptions (http://forums.hologfx.com/index.php?topic=256.msg3238#msg3238). The pace will probably be rather slow and casual. Because of the settings, each of our characters should be in some way useful to the group: powerful, intelligent, possessing some essential skill, whatever you come up with. Your common sense (and my judgement) shall be the limit to how powerful your character can be. By all means, do create a dragon or a demon or a demigod, but know that your character isn't invincible. This is our Out-of-Character thread, everything but the RP itself goes here, including your characters. I'll create a separate thread for the RP.

The current turn order:
Nicolaos (+Harold&Aidan) (Krozam)
Lissa (Hollow Nyan-chan)
Cathair (tigershark13)
Nex (TheThing)
Jimmy (Zerpo)
Setsuna&Maria (InfinityStream)
Luna (Chihaya-chan)
Darwin (Irie Naoki)
Ishman (Listomar)
Fiona (Shion)
Estia (SpringHalo)
Acan (SootShade)

World
Just because it's a mediaval fantasy world doesn't mean the technology must stay entirely medieval. Guns are allowed, though they're fairly primitive. Steampunk, such as mechanical airships, is allowed. However, I'd prefer that most of this stuff is somewhere else in the world, our starting area is modelled after medieval Europe, with knights and castles and such. Races, there are others than humans, but humans are dominant in our starting area. You're all free to expand the world how you like, and most likely all our characters come from different backgrouds, different countries etc. Also, different dimensions exist. Someone among us may have been to hell and come back, someone else may be a summoner who calls upon extradimensional creatures to fight for him. As I said, we'll expand the world as needed.

It's year 744 of the Calm, the Calm being an age that started after a particularly chaotic time in the history of this world, when the gods themselves warred. Since the Godswar ended, the world has been more or less stable, wars have been fairly small scale and the gods have started avoiding direct confrontations.

Gods and Religions
There's a large pantheon of quite real gods, and all of them have their followers (except the forgotten ones). Belief is what gives them power, so the larger a god's religion, the more powerful he generally is. The gods are at each other's throats all the time, but mostly they prefer indirect power struggle to direct confrontation. Usually mortals are the ones to suffer most, but there's little you can do about it except ascend to a god yourself, because non-believers are enemies to all gods, and that's not wise.

Our patron god, Hall, is a minor but rising god. His totem animal is a Raven and his domain is death. There are so many gods that most share their domains with several others, Hall certainly isn't the only one or the most powerful one among the gods of death.

Magic
Lots of different kinds of magic in this world. Or rather, lots of different ways to use it. Magic is a force that's found everywhere in the world, though in varying quantities. All magic in the nature is also elementally aligned: earth, water, air, fire, light and dark. On the sea there's lots of water magic around, in the mountains there's lots of earth magic, during the night there's a lot of dark magic, air magic is strong when it's windy, fire and light magic benefit from the sun. Mages are people born with the ability to draw magic from their surroundings (and, if necessary, from their own body) and trained to use it in various ways. The ability is a recessive genetic trait, it's inherited but may sometimes lie dormant for many generations, then suddenly manifest as strong as ever. Converting magic into someting else than its original element, for example electricity or dimensional energy used in summoning, is possible, but advanced stuff. Usually mages are strong in one to three elements and weak in the others, though there are exceptions who can only use one element or all of them. The ways they are used differ, some use spells because they've been trained to do so, but in truth, all it takes is the ability and enough will.

Servants of the gods, clerics and paladins, may not have a natural ability to draw magic from their surroundings, but they have limited access to their god's power. This power is different from natural magic because it's non-elemental. It's perfect for healing and a few other things, and with only a slight conversion becomes usable for shields and yet more things. It can be converted to elemental magic or any other kind of energy that the natural magic can, but again, that's advanced stuff. Sometimes clerics and paladins also channel their god's power, for example when granting powerful blessings to items and people.

For those with no magical ability or god-given power, there is one way to use magic: alchemy. Magic exists everywhere, and alchemy is the art of collecting highly magical substances from the nature, mixing them, condensing the magic, and creating materials (often liquids, but not always) which can release their magic without a will to draw it out. The effects of alchemical mixtures are often purely elemental and raw, but skilled alchemists can even convert the magic into other forms of energy, which can have fairly sophisticated effects.

Concerning healing. (http://forums.hologfx.com/index.php?topic=256.msg3270#msg3270)

Ki
In a world where magic is powerful and often fast to use, and technology isn't advanced enough to balance it out, non-mages often aren't able to hold their own. Some warriors have found a way to balance the situation: they're able to use their inner energy, ki, to enhance their fighting capabilities. Some scholars theorize that ki is actually magic in our own bodies, because magic can be used to replicate ki-effects and the side-effects of using too much ki are similar to the effects of using the magic in your own body to cast spells. However, the fact that everyone is able to use ki with training doesn't quite fit this theory.

Anyway, ki can be used to enhance a warrior's strength and reflexes. Releasing it from your feet or hands allows you to jump fast and far (think flash step, only weaker) or to strike through a stone wall. It can be used to heal quickly, and it can be transferred as sort of a life force to someone else. It can also be channeled through a weapon, it's possible to strike the ground with a sword and cause a sizeable crack. Some of this is, of course, very advanced, and warriors who can effectively use ki are few and far between. The training to control your ki involves meditation, and learning to control your body on a deep level, usually through some kind of a martial art. Using too much ki results in temporary weakness, so ki-warriors usually eat and sleep a lot after battles in order to avoid getting sick or even dying.

More detailed information about ki (http://forums.hologfx.com/index.php?topic=256.msg6382#msg6382).

Starting Point
We're The Wings of Hall, a small but relatively famous mercenary group formed two years ago. We're all from different backgrounds, a motley team that for some reason just works well together. Hall is our patron god, a minor but rising power in the pantheon. If there's a cleric among us, he prays to Hall, but otherwise it has little practical effect. Our mission is not to convert people to Hall's faith or to serve his will (though he may give us missions sometimes), our mission is simply to become famous. The plan is that this should attract people to Hall's faith.

We've been hired by a duke fighting for the crown of Nantii, named Solius. Our next mission is to infiltrate the fortress of his enemy, Duke Tevor, during the night, and open the gates to allow his soldiers to capture the fortress.

Guidelines
- I am the Game Master, and my word is the law.
- There's no need to limit yourself to one character, but don't create more than you can comfortably control. As the GM I'll take care of the NPC's (Non-Player Character) important to the plot, but you can create your own.
- Joining in the middle of the game is quite possible. The game is open until we have 15 players.
- No god-modding. This means that you only control your own characters (unless given permission). For example, if two Player Characters fight, the receiver will decide if the hit connects or not.
- Write in the past tense and 3rd person.
- Try to keep the OOC talk in this topic, but if you must say something OOC in the game thread, use ((double parenthesis)).
- Use your common sense
- Be respectful towards the other players. I thought this was obvious, but apparently some people need reminding.

Name:   Harold Bjornson
Gender: male
Age:     25
Race:   Human
Appearance: Blonde haired, blue eyes, a rugged handsome man with strong legs and arms.  Stands 6' 3"

Personality:  Gentle personality but plays a grouch.  True to his friends.  Does have a split personality which not checked will get him into trouble.  When he gets drunk, he'll go after the ladies and romance them.  Something in him turns on which could be magical or a curse that allows him to charm the ladies.  It's not all powerful as a strong minded woman  or a lesbian who hates men can resist it.  It's the reason why he was fleeing the country when he tried to charm a princess into bed and got caught.

Special Abilities: Direction sense, he can never get lost above ground and below.  He's also got a good knowledge of mining and can tell where the goods are in the ground.  Goods being gems and gold, not buried treasures that's not part of the ground.

Items of Interest: he's got a pick of delving from the dwarves which will dig through rock and dirt with effort.  The stronger he is, the more he can dig.  Currently, he can dig 10' x 10' cube of dirt in a few minutes and 5' x 5' cube of stone with it.  For a weapon, he uses a mattock for strength training as well as killing knights.

History: His tale is that of a prince (he's not) that has been thrown out of his country by an evil usurper (the legitimate king).  He met up with the group and fared ok but is only beginning to open up as he kept quietly to himself.  There's been only one display to the group of him getting drunk and they were surprised to see him charm the beautiful merchant woman into bed.

Name: Nicolaos Karenz
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Race: Human
Appearance: I hate describing appearances, so just look at the picture.

Personality: Nicolaos is a very private person, serious and calm, though he does have a dry sense of humour. He has a way with words, and certain dark charisma that makes him both respected and feared - however, he has very little respect for authorities, which tends to earn him powerful enemies. He seems to have a strong dislike for corruption, which is strange considering his otherwise tolerant attitude towards human failings. He could be popular with the ladies, were he to show any interest in women - but he doesn't. He's a good leader, not necessarily brilliant, but he's responsible and possesses common sense. In battlefield he's hard and emotionless, frighteningly so. His motivations are largely a mystery: though he appears to serve his god faithfully, he's no fanatic, and there are occasional hints that his relationship with Hall has some problems. For now, he seems content to seek glory and fame, just as his god wants.

Special Abilities: Nicolaos is a swordsman of master level, a cleric of middling power and skill, very adept at combining swordsmanship and magic, and fairly charismatic.

Items of Interest: His weapon is a katana blessed by Hall. He has a crow companion named Jaar, messenger of Hall, which he seems to be able to communicate with. He's been known to use the bird as a spy and a scout.

History: Nicolaos comes from the North, presumably the kingdom of Rowos, where the cult of Hall has a stable foothold. However, he's very tight-lipped about his past. Up in the North he's pretty famous, he's sometimes called "The Reaper of Hall" and he's known to be very dangerous on the battlefield. His position in the cult of Hall isn't clear, but he seems to be of fairly high rank. The reason for his coming to South seems pretty obvious: he's banished from the Northern Kingdoms on the pain of death. Exactly what he did to anger five kings so is a mystery to the public, but together with his prowess on the battlefield this has made him fairly (in)famous in the North.

Two years ago he banded with our motley team of mercenaries, becoming the founder and Captain of The Wings of Hall. His mission, according to him, is to become famous and bring glory to Hall. Not to convert people, not to act as Hall's right hand in Nantii, just to become famous in the name of Hall. For this reason, it's alright for the other members of the group to pray to other gods, as long as they keep relatively quiet about it. Hall isn't interested in the faith of a small group of mercenaries, so as long as they follow the plan, the others are free to pray to whichever god they wish. Nicolaos leads the group as a mercenary leader, not as a priest, and as long as he pays them and leads them to fame insted of death, the others probably don't mind following the plan.

Character Realationships:
Harald: A useful man, but we shouldn't let him drink too often.
Darwin: A servant of another god, but in this case it's not an issue. Doesn't like to talk about his past: understandable, though his reasons are likely different from mine.
Lissa: Another one who's uncomfortable with her past. A likeable enough personality, causes no problems.
Nex: A man who has suffered a great deal, I feel sympathy. Has some problems with many of the other members, but respects my authority and has proven his usefulness on many occasions.
Setsuna: A man a honour, and very good at following orders. Doesn't exactly get along with people, but doesn't cause large problems.
Maria: I wish I had a mother like her, instead of whom I have. Also very good at keeping people alive. Deserves some respect.
Ishman: Very useful in battle. That's all.
Cathair: A source of internal problems, but too useful in battle to let go. Also keeps Aidan in the group.
Jimmy: Once tried to kill me, but it was his job, so I bear no grudge. I'm not exactly fond of assassins, too often they serve the corrupt, but they can also be used against the corrupt. Also, has a surprisingly strong moral backbone despite his profession, perhaps because of his youth.
Acan: A very useful man who also deserves a measure of respect. He succeeded where I failed, sort of.
Estia: Likeable enough, doesn't cause any problems either.
Aidan: Has major problems with Cathair, but otherwise decent company. I could learn something about tactics from him.
Fiona: Aidan's subordinate, in practise if not technically. Temperamental, but not uncontrollably so. A good archer, more experienced in battle than Estia, though lacking her magic.

Name: Darwin Roday
Gender: Male
Age: 32
Race: Born as a human but granted power from the wind goddess and now an Avian
Appearance: a Light armored male (see pic for more info)

Personality: A quite person that does not enjoy talking to other people for he has never really known what to say, usually what he says leads him to truble, tho strong Darwin has gone through so much that he cares little for other people other then his close ones. He does not drink alot, usually sits in a corner to enjoy his drink. Darwin has gone through so much in the past that he does not like to talk about it to anyone. Even if Darwin does not communicate with other people he tries to help and save those who would otherwise die. Does not kill unless he is forced to, tries to not kill anyone but instead injure them so they cant move.

Special Abilities: I use Ki but with the help from a magical enchanted blade I recieved from the Wind Goddess I am able to use wind magic for my benefits, I am able to summon and dismiss wings so that I can fly and hide my true Identity as an Avian.

Items of Interest: A sword bestowed to me from the Goddess of Wind, The sword gives me limited access to some wind magic which I can use to increas my fighting skills, I am currently looking for the legendary bow of Ventus which will improve my abilities more then any human.

History: When I was little my parents died when I was at the age of 5 and was taken in by close friends of his parents. The only thing that I contained from that was a locked my mother carried and it was the only thing that made me feel like I was close to her. Since then I have gone through alot of traning from the onse I stayed with and learned alot about ki. When I was at the age of 19 I enroled for the as a guard in the Great city Goldan, it was fine at times until 2 years later.
It started as any other day but when the night came suddenly a great army in the distance was spotted, charging towards the city. We were not prepared for such a large assult and it resulted with the Great city Goldan to be close to be raized to the ground. During the war while I was defending the city I got hit in the back with a hammer, thankfully the helm I wore took all the damage. The problem was that I could not move from the fear of dying and thuse I just froze until one of the Elite guards came behind and killed him. I just ran deeper into the city. When finally we had just managed to defend the city, the only things that remained intact was alittle bit of the main castle and couple of houses. The Great city Goldan has become nothing but a small Village.
I left the Village for it had nothing more to give me and went on a journey to become stronger. I traveled alone and far for over 3 years traning with ki and searching for greater power. I had finished all my food and water and was about to lose consciousness until I saw a person walking to me. She handed me her arm and when I reached for it I suddenly felt such power going into me that It was like I was reneved.
Grateful for her help I asked her who she was and the response I got was, "A wind Goddess". Still despered to gain power I asked her if she could train me and give me strength. When she agread I was happy but also alittle suspicious, it seems that the thing she wanted from me was the necles my mom had. I was shocked at first for I thought she wanted something more valuable like my soul or something along those lines. When I gave it to her even if it was something small I felt like I had no more connection to my mother. It seemed that the Neckless actually contained some of her own magic in it and thanks to it, it gave me some connection to her. When I had done training with the Goddess she gave me her blessing. I was nolonger a human but actually an Avian. When I was about to leave she called me one more time and gave me a sword. When I took the sword I felt Great magic coming from it. She explained it to me and told me what it did. I left her and the place to continue my training. It wasnt until much later that I found a person with the name Nicolaos who told me that he was looking for people to join his mercinary group. I thought it was a good way for me to train so I joined him.

Relationship

Darwin has never really thought alot about other people but when he joined the group he had felt close to those people then anyone eles

Name: Lissa Dragomier
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Race: Half Human, half Dragon
Appearance: Small medium armored girl.

Personality: Lissa is gentle and caring for her friends, but gets ruthless when it comes to her enemies. Gets uncomfortable when others are asking about her past.

Special Abilities: She is stronger and tougher than the average human. Because she is a half dragon half human, her skin is made of dragon scale even that it looks like normal skin. She can also summon dragon wings, but have yet not learned to do that at will. Can summon heat from herself to warm up a camp or to close wounds. Can sense other people and creatures if they mean harm or not to a certain degree. She can breathe fire, but for a very limited time and it is only useful for starting camp fires and heating quick meals. She also has better hearing than humans thanks to being half dragon.

Items of Interest: A sword that she got from her family and a magical necklace that powers her draconic ability's.

History: Lissa is a half dragon half human, her father is the king of Gool and he one of the true dragons while her mother is a human and she is the Queen of Gool. Long ago the kingdom of Gool there was only dragons that reigned and lived there. The humans only thought that dragons are dangerous and should not be allowed to live. Because of the humans hatred for dragons, the dragons started to despise the humankind as well. Centuries later, humans started to open themselves towards the dragons and so did the dragons but only a few of them, such as the King in this case. The king married a human queen and got their child Lissa. Lissa is one of the princess's in the Kingdom of Gool that lies in the south. She was quiet (in)famous there for, she was the only princess that actually fought. One day when she was training her swordsmanship with her trainer, the trainer mocked her and she went rampage. She killed the trainer, and some soldiers stoped her without harming her. When they finally managed to calm her and restrain her, they told the queen what happened. She wanted to repent what she had done but they didn't let her do that. Lissas mother had her exiled from the kingdom of the act of murder on a commander. After she was exiled she left on a journey. Lissa wandered towards the north and met the mercenary group The Wings of Hall and joined them as the role of a warrior.

Relationship with everyone in the team:

Harold Bjornson: Lissa has a friendly relationship with him. Thinks he is mostly useful when he isn't drinking and when it comes to diversions with explosives.

Nicolaos Karenz: She have some issues with Nicolaos personality, but thinks of him as a great leader since he cares about his fellow members.

Darwin Roday: Thinks he is interesting because she's never seen an avian before.

Nex Addo: See's him as a powerful wizard yet as a lost soul trying to find a place to fit in.

Setsuna Ando: He is good with a sword so he would maybe be a great sparing partner.

Maria Cyan: Thinks she is useful with her healing skills, but thinks she is caring a bit too much like a oversensitive mother.

Ishman: He says he is a monk, but doesn't look anything close to one. Lissa is curious why it is like that.

Cathair: Lissa wonder why he hates foreign people so much, they may be different in politics and traits, but they are still people.

Jimmy 'Kage' Kuneto: Lissa thinks he is weird because he have high morals even when he is an assassin as they should not have any emotions, that's what she believes.

Acan Moread: Doesn't think much of him except that he scares her, she doesn't like arrows since they are more lethal than close range weapons. But otherwise he is a nice person that is useful against mages especially.

Estia Barackson: Lissa is also afraid of her since she uses arrow's as weapon, but not as much because Estia cares more about living beings, that's how she (Lissa) thinks of it.

Aidan Donovan am Delian: Thinks outright that he is a crazy member that will be hard to get a long with.

Septe: I like it. I suppose his role would be... navigator?

Irie: There's one problem with your character's abilities: the power of the gods is non-elemental, so if his magic is wind-aligned, it's his own natural ability (possibly boosted by the goddess or the sword). The other option is that he's been granted her divine power, but he's just specialized at converting it to wind magic. Otherwise the character is fine, I guess. His role, warrior/scout?

Hollow: What, your character is a half-dragon and there's no mention whatsoever about that in the history? If you want to keep it as a secret, that's fine, but PM me the details, please. Including what special abilities her draconic heritage grants. Her role, warrior?

I've invited some friends to join us, we'll be getting at least two "outsider" players. Hopefully that's fine with everyone. The more, the merrier...

Name: Nex Addo
Gender: Male
Age: ??
Race: Human

Appearance
Stands tall and has a long black cloak. The only visible body part is his hand which looks very old. Holds a crooked staff. His face can't be seen and when people try to look upon his face, they will only see darkness and feel hopeless as well as scared. Nex knows this and tries to keep his hood down. When he walks forward, a small black smoke comes underneath his cloak that fades away.

Personality
Nex has a dark personality and people have the natural instinct on not trusting him. This is the reason why he was solo for bigger part of his life. He has no leading capabilities and he has a natural disgust to people. He can be relied in battle when he can be arced upon to do something. He only does something when it is a challenge for him and his mates usually trick him into making simple things seem like a harder challenge than it is.

Special Abilities
Nex is mostly seen using dark magic. He draws his dark magic from his body. He always uses the lowest level of magic that gets the job done but people theorise that he can do much more. Using dark magic, he can somewhat draw the power from the curse as well as his body making him one of the more powerful dark magic mage there is but using too much puts him in even more agony as his body grows more and more dependant on the dark magic.

During the time he has been alive, he has acquired a lot of knowledge which makes him versatile on many things including alchemy as well as other things. Think of him as a walking library.

Items of Interest
Holds an old crooked staff that stands as tall as he is.

History
Nex was cursed by a great god of death long long ago (some say it happened many years ago, some say century and even others say even longer), a curse that makes it impossible for him to die. But that doesn't mean the body wont age. What Nex did that deserved such an act is everybodies guess. Nex has since then looked for someone powerful enough to both destroy him as well as the curse, being alive for a long time, his personality has been completely destroyed. He thinks nothing of people and is in constant agony. He doesn't sleep, his pain doesn't allow him to rest and his body forces him to move on.

The name he has is ancient lost language for Death Bringer or Bringer of Death. His real name has been lost in times. He has a bad reputation but whether it all is true or not is anyone's guess.

Since people naturally flee from him, it wasn't until he met Nicolaos Karenz which was the first person who could talk to him like a regular person. Karenz saw instantly that Nex was talented and tricked Nex into joining his party. Nex knew full well he was being tricked but he didn't mind as he was finally part of something. Karenz managed to convert Nex into following Hall and Nex hoped that when Hall gains enough power, he could take Nex's curse away.

Septe: I like it. I suppose his role would be... navigator?

Can be a navigator but if you want him to scout, he needs to be trained.  He's got training as an sapping engineer.  Ask him to take down a castle and he will.

That's fine if we're above ground.  But what if we're in confines or underground?  Just a point.  But, in any case, he'd do better having stealth.  Sneaking in and placing explosives would be his forte.  Too bad he didn't think to do that to the Usurper who kicked him out of his homeland. ;)

Name: Setsuna Ando
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Race: Symbiotic (Mutualistic) Human

(Symbiote's are creatures that depend on each other to live. -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbiosis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbiosis))

Appearance
You will recognize him as he stands straight in the face of a bartering merchant. His eyes are a dull brown covered by glasses with rather thick lens, mixing in with his jet black hair. You will see his arms as they hang limp by his side, his right slightly resting on the hilt of a single sword. He wears whatever is clean, with the exception of a bracelet on his left hand. (Please bear with me, I'm no good at describing clothing. I'd say a plaid overshirt, a white shirt underneath. Maybe wears what's akin to jeans?)

Personality
Ask him a question, he will answer. Give him a task, he will complete it to the best of his abilities. He is blunt, straight to the point. He looks at people for flaws, overlooking the good, claiming that 'If it's good, leave it.'. He is stuffed full of chivalry, pounded into him by his father at an early age. That also explains why he is very bad around woman. Very.

Special Abilities
His single sword is all he needs. He controls the Ki inside him to enhance his speed, agility, and strength. The sword was made by himself, a pitch black blade. Once in every while, during a dire situation, will he allow the Ki to flow through a point of focus, be it people or his sword, and work it the way he wants to.

The sword was forged to react to his Ki only, thus being the reason why it's black. It isn't known what color Ki takes on, but the best guess is that it takes on the color of the owners hair...

Ki Abilities

Items of Interest
The Black Sword.
The Bracelet on his left hand. Bares the Inscription, 'Forever Yours - Xia X722 - X741
His Glasses

History
Born in a mountainous country, where cold climate lead to massive engineering for the main purpose of heat. That mass engineering movement lead to basic grasping of physics, chemistry. The cold climate made sickness much more perceptible, allowing the countries medical science to be the most advanced in the world.

His history begins with the birth of another. Xia Mai Lee, his now deceased lover, was born without Ki inside her body, an energy she needs to live. Another child, Setsuna, is born with too much Ki. Being in the same hospital was fate. Through a procedure, these two became Symbiotes. They required the others constant presence to live. He ends up taking swordplay with a master in the mountain to better protect her and to control his own excess of Ki. He was a skilled fighter by the age of 15. The two then live a beautiful relationship alone in the mountains until the age of 19, when a scientist claiming their best interests takes them under his wing. At the age of 20, Setsuna does not need Xia's lack of Ki to take away his own. However, Xia has lost the ability to take Ki from Setsuna thanks to the scientists experiment.

She dies at the age of 21. The scientist dies at the hands of Setsuna soon after. He joins The Wings of Hall at the age of 22. Wether or not he shows it, he loves his new home of people who somewhat, actually, care.

Notes
His glasses are special because he had horrible vision since birth. It has nothing to do with the excess of Ki.

Relationships

Harold Bjornson: Can't stand the mans split personality. Reminds him too much of the scientist. The man acted like he had four split personalities, so even with less, Setsuna can't stand him.
Nicolas Karenz: Can't stand it when he preaches about Hall. Other than that, gives respect to the mans firm stance on his beliefs.
Darwin Roday:Believes he is much too full of himself for being granted 'Avian' powers by the gods of the wind. And that sword...
Lissa Dragomeir: He has no open grudge against her. Maybe it's something else...? (I'm kidding... I just can't find any way Setsuna would hate her.)
Nex Addo: He finds the smoke flowing off Nex's body unnecessary. It would give away their position in a stealth raid. He also doesn't like the fact that he can't see his face. How do you trust him if you can't see his face?
Maria Cyan: Again, no opinion. He just respects woman too much. When she tries to speak to him, he has a very hard time answering.
Ishman: Can't stand the noble air he carries around, believing that the man believes in his strength too much.
Cathair: Can't stand his underhanded ways. But he respects his tactical strength.
Jimmy 'Kage' Kuneto: Has befriended Jimmy the most. Would like to someday, spar against the man with two blades, and compare the ups and downs of one blade VS. two.
Acan Moread: Think's he's stuck in the past and can't overcome it. Does respect his aim though.
Estia Barackson: He is forever perplexed how she can be 68 while looking like a 19 year old...
Aidan Donovan am Delian: Holy hell, anger management.

Reason for Ki Problem

((Followed Krozam's advice about the Ki Center and changed it to match the details.))

Edits
Changed the year.
Gave Reason for the higher science of the country he was born in.
Added reason for Symbiosis and added Ki Abilites.

Septe: Stealth would be good. Navigator and sapper, then.

Infinity: I assume your character was born in a country where science is important and the level of technology higher than the average of the time. Probably quite far away from Nantii. What's with the sword, is it magical or something? There must be a reason why he made it himself and why it's black. Nice character, I see no problems with it. Warrior and, since he has plenty of ki, secondary healer?

As for the year... I'm coming up with this on the spot, but let's say it's year 744 of the Calm, the Calm being an age that started after a particularly chaotic time in the history of this world, when the gods themselves warred. Since the Godswar ended, the world has been more or less stable, wars have been fairly small scale and the gods have started avoiding direct confrontations.

One thing about alchemy: it needs a laboratory, or at least some basic equipment that we probably aren't carrying around. So whenever we're in a town with an alchemist's laboratory, we tend to rent it and let Nex (and possibly another alchemist, if one joins) to do his thing.

Same thing with explosives.  It takes time to create it and prepare it.  Corning it (getting it wet and creating cakes, letting it dry then breaking it up) also takes time.  Harold can create his own explosives but special effects he'd need to refer to an alchemist.

I know this idea is kinda on the spot now but I have been thinking about it for a long time and I wasnt sure if it were okey but you decide,

I was wondering if it were okey with you that the Sword I carried could actually be improved, like a person who trains and trains becomes more powerful, the same with the sword, if I use it more and more and when I myself become more powerful the sword itself also becomes more powerful, you would think its "merging" but what if the sword cause it is magically enchanted allways took small part off my KI and converted it into elemental magic, if you dont like that converting then we could just think that the magic is like a person itself, getting more powerful the more you use it.

would like to hear what you think

Septe: As we discussed earlier on the cbox, we have several options. We could carry only what we can comfortably carry, or we could have a bag of holding, or we could convince Nex to create us a pocket dimension. :P

Irie: I don't quite agree with that logic. Swords are not people, they don't get stronger with practise. Your character, however, can get more skilled with practise. He hasn't had the sword for a long time, and he hasn't used magic before he got it, so I imagine he still has a lot to learn about using it. With more practise he can eventually learn to use the sword to its full potential. So no increase in raw power, but versatility, speed, those kind of things can be improved.

It can be powerful, just try to keep it... reasonable. We're a famous mercenary group, but we're not supposed to be all-powerful. And remember, power always has its price. To keep things interesting, the more powerful your character is, the more serious his flaws and weaknesses should be.

Septe: As we discussed earlier on the cbox, we have several options. We could carry only what we can comfortably carry, or we could have a bag of holding, or we could convince Nex to create us a pocket dimension. :P

Nex: "Pfft, you lazy bunch, when I was your age, I didn't have hocus pocus to create another dimension inside my pocket. Bah, this is what happens when people get too much accustomed to comfort. There is no way you can ever convince me to ever do such a thing for you. Plus, manipulating space to compress items in smaller space, yet retain light weight, and retain it's original form, shape and any magical elements is beyond possible. It can't be done."

Nocholaos: "You know, I heard off a star metal residing in an underground cave, but I just can't be arsed to remember where it was located. Also, we can't forego our mission to hunt such metals since it could be big in size not to mention we don't have space to carry such around... Is such a shame."

Nex: "Star metal, as in the STAR METAL, like from fallen stars? Umm... I'll see what I can do about that pocked dimension thingy."

@Krozam.
There is nothing special about the sword. It just acts as a focus point when he needs to move his Ki between people and objects. Healer would probobaly be a great spot for him. The closest I could compare to his way of healing is Hanatarou from Bleach, only the energy flows in the opposite reaction. As to why it's black, and why he made it himself, the sword must react only to his Ki, so he had to infuse his Ki during the process of making it.

Gave reason in the character discripton.

The question of items.
Can't we be like the Kokiri in 'The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina of Time' and have bags that NEVER get heavy and can hold an infinite amount of items :P
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on August 17, 2011, 09:38:50 pm
Infinity: Ok, but if he made his own sword, doesn't that mean he's a somewhat proficient blacksmith as well? If you don't want that, make it so that he was merely present when it was made and infused his ki while the smith did the rest of the work.

With a "pocket dimension" I meant a small dimensional space that can be accessed from anywhere with the right spell. No weight, the only problem is that Nex is the only one in the party with the skill to access it. It's quite possible in this magic system, though very advanced magic. :P A "Bag of Holding", on the other hand, is a bag which minimizes and makes lighter items put into there, it can be accessed by anyone, but the downside is that we can only put small items there (which fit through the opening) and it's considerably more limited on space.

Damn, I know almost everyone's characters now, and we're still missing the Brain: the person who comes up with all the crazy but brilliant and out-of-the-box ideas, plans and strategies...

Name: Ishman
Gender: Male
Age: 18
Race: Human
Appearance: Average height, very muscular (think Bruce Lee). Bronze colored skin with silver eyes. The sides of his head are shaved, with he hair combed back in a ponytail that starts at the back of his head. Several, barely noticeable scars throughout his body, with a a more clear one on the left side of his face. See picture.

Personality: At first glance, Ishman doesn't seem to have a personality. He was raised in a temple with strict discipline, and keeps on to that. See history for more detail. He does, however, have a sense of humor, though dry and sarcastic. He is very forward, and lacks empathy. He was raised as a perfect warrior, with servants preparing his food and such, so he often expects others to do those things for him, sometimes even commanding it if he feels his commands will be followed. Lacks many social skills, and often insults people with his forwardness.

In battle, he is fearless and direct, though not reckless. He knows when to retreat, if needed. A perfect soldier lives to fight another day. He doesn't exactly enjoy killing. He sees it as a necessary evil to hone his craft.

He respects battle prowess and tactical abilities, so he will be in good or neutral terms with most of the group, though they might not be with him. The monks are often seen as arrogant for their lack of social prowess.

Though a monk, he has no oath of celibacy, though relationships themselves are seen as a distraction. He might fulfill his needs sometimes, but falling for a woman as an idea is absurd to him. Doesn't mean he can't fall in love, it's just very unlikely.

Relationships with the group:

(click to show/hide)

Special Abilities: Near master level of Ki Combat. He uses a very acrobatic yet swift style of fighting (combine Karate/TKD/Muay Thai), and uses Ki for extra speed and strenght. Few people can keep up with his full speed.

He has runes tattooed to his body in a dark blue ink. The runes were made by a Grandmaster of his temple, who was trained in magic. The runes use his inner magic, and act as armor. So in a long, drawn out fight that he takes blows in, he is in a disadvantage since he will deplete both Ki and Magic sources inside him.

Ki-power list:

I'm just gonna list the names, you can check what they do from the Ki-description.

(click to show/hide)

Items of Interest: A twin bladed tonfa set, that can also be used as swords. Very proficient in their use. They are stored in the same scabbard on the back and can be pulled out with one arm.

History: Ishman is from a special temple in the eastern small Kingdom of Jaharta. The country is militarily weak, and would get swept by neighboring countries if it weren't for the temple. The temple and the country have a mutual agreement: the people of Jaharta supply the temple with food, and work as servants for the  warrior monks, and as payment, the temple protects the country. Even with just a few hundred men, the temple is feared as a strong military force.

Being somewhat of a genius even amongst the higly talented monks, Ishman set off at the age of 16 to his Master's Journey. Basically it's a journey every monk of the temple goea to after the Grandmasters deem that they have taught the student as much as they can. The purpose of the journey is for the student to get  actual combat experience and perfect their techniques there.

Soon after arriving to Nantii, Ishman saw The Wings of Hall in action, and joined up in hopes of being able to meet challenging foes and perfect himself. He respects Hall as a God of Death, but isn't a "worshipper". To him only his craft matters.

Info on the Temple: The temple of Aedon has been around for hundreds of years. It is dedicated to Aedon, the God of Perfection, or the God of Striving for Perfection, as the temple sees it. To them, Aedon is less of a God and more of a Grandmaster, who they model themselves after. Though many offer a prayer to Aedon for the health of their unborn children, or a good crop, the monks of the temple dedicate their lives to becoming  perfect weapons. Soldiers with no equal. And so far, they've done a pretty good job.

PS: Instead of the dragon tattoo he has a rune tattoo on both arms.

@Krozam
Oh, that's what you meant. Sure, I guess I'm the blacksmith/healer/fighting guy. I'm so awesome xD

On the Pocket Dimension and/or 'Bag of Holding'
Does it really matter which one? Sure, the pocket dimension has security, but Nexus still has access to all pocket dimensions, thus allowing him to steal at will. The Bag of Holding, anyone can have access to ONLY if you hand over the bag.

Brain guy
Aren't you the brain guy? You are the leader of the Wings of Hall...

The leader isn't necessarily the one who comes up with the plans. He's the charismatic one, who keeps the party together. Nicolaos is solid: he has charisma, common sense and fighting ability - but he isn't brilliant, and he doesn't think outside the box. That's why I hoped we'd get another character for that role, though it's not absolutely necessary. We're also missing a rogue/assassin type of character, looks like our methods will have to be fairly straightforward and reliant on fighting power... which we certainly aren't lacking.

I reviewed Listo's character before he posted it, it's fine. Another warrior, purely melee. We'll get some ranged power with my brother's character, and a couple more warriors with two other friends. Then there's qlxlxlp, whose character is still a mystery to me...

I kinda thought I was the Rogue Assassin Type, I dont hold a very large blade, with the help from the sword I can actually become Sort off invisible by flying in the air and using the wind to move clouds with my speed, I am also faster then anyone who uses Ki to move, I am like the Perfect Assassin type =D

I was thinking more of a lock-picking, backstabbing, hide-in-shadows type... :P

I just realized we're also missing high-powered magic artillery. We don't have anyone throwing gigantic fireballs and such. It's interesting how homogeous our group ended up being. It leaves us some weak points, but I pity anyone who gets into melee with us, we could probably decimate an army. :P

Character Sheet

Name: Cathair
Gender: Male
Age:25
Race: Human (Dalradia)
Appearance:

Cathair is around 6 foot in height and of an averageish build. His pale skin is worn from the harsh winds of his northern Archipelago and his face is marred by a deep vicious scar trailing just below his right eye, looking as though the wound almost tore his eye out. His nose is crooked from the number of times he's broken it. He has some stubble, implying that he hasn't really bothered to shave, rather than any actual attempt to grow a beard, his hair is cropped short and a dark blonde.

The rest of his body is scarred to some extent from the years of raiding and fighting, on his back is a large tattoo of a Wolf, a symbol of protection and a recognition of his skill at leading war bands and raids.

Most will see him wearing his slightly battered set of chain-mail, obviously repaired multiple times over it's life, at his side is a short Sword and upon his back are three hefty throwing spears and a Godelic shield, which also looks more than a little worse for wear. The shields surface is marred with a number of scratches, the green paint somewhat peeling. In the centre of the shield is a boss, surrounded with a collection of trinity knots.

Around his neck hangs an expensive silver pendant and on his wrists are a number of golden bracelets that symbolise his wealth and strength.

He speaks in a thick Dalradian accent, with a voice hoarse from shouting orders and drinking far far too whiskey.

Personality: Cathair embodies many of the traits of a good Dalraidian warlord. He is arrogant, xenophobic, violent, incredibly cunning, proud and does just about everything to excess. As is normal in Dalradia he puts the pursuit of personal strength, political clout and power, whatever the form, above all else, for if one aspires to become the next Ard Ruine, as everyone does, one must be willing to do anything to get the power to take and hold such a mighty position.

He values cunning and tactics in battle beyond that of a fair fight, and is more than willing to be underhanded, in fact believes it foolish to even entertain the idea of honour in battle, and will do whatever he considers necessary (often with a slightly...disconcerting smile upon his face). He revels in battle and blood lust, and despite the fact he isn't particularly... well lets say scholarly, he has a cunning and slight insanity that has wrong footed many a "superior" commander, he is especially fond of ambush attacks.

He puts almost no value upon human life, particularly the life of what he calls "weaklings" (anyone who is not Daradian) and relishes causing destruction and chaos, partially because it is his way of life and partially because he believes he serves the old gods by doing so.

He also has an extreme drinking and gambling problem, which has led to a few...issues in the past, he is quick to anger, holds grudges, and doesn't really understand the meaning of subtly in a social context.

Special Abilities: due to years of leading small raiding parties he has a great amount of Tactical cunning, and is regarded as an expert using ambush tactics and light infantry against superior forces, however he lacks knowledge of large scale warfare tactics. Over his years of raiding he stayed true to his goal of perusing power and he has taken the time to acquire a Low level Ki ability. He's also very good at fighting with shields, and can use javelins and spears very well, and swords with some efficiency as well.

Items of Interest: His pendant is very expensive and hangs on a silver chain around his neck, blessed by priests of the blood god, it is said to give him power and protection when the blood of his foes soaks into the silver, whether this is true or not is debatable, but Cathair believes it is, and won't let anyone tell him otherwise

His bracelets are made from gold and are excellent examples of Dalradia's exquisite gold jewellery, they are marks of honour in his society and show him to be a skilled warrior and warlord.

His weapons include a decorated sword hanging off his belt, his shield, and a number of throwing spears. He also keeps a knife in his boot.

History

It is best to tell this in the way Cathair would tell it

"Well, ya see, it all started when i was chasin' the bastard over our seas, we both got a lil' carried away and shipwrecked by a large squall. I ended up in this god forsaken foreign land, and went ta drown me sorrows in a tavern, course, all I 'ad was a lil' coin so I thought I'd gamble some, ya know, make more money ta get back ta me home, a place without all these silly rules about honour an' the like.... Well...I lost... An' 'ere we are. I'd say tha's about all ya need ta know about me."

Relationships with other characters:

Cathair has an intense frustration at being trapped in a foreign land, under the command of a foreign leader who worships foreign gods, and worst of all being kept from his quest, nay his destiny, to become Ard Ruine of his homeland, and as such he is quite volatile and unless otherwise stated he will have snapped or gotten angry at everyone in the group at one time or another. When this frustration is combined with his normal personality it makes things rather...tense for Cathair.

Harold Bjornson:

He finds Harold...Annoying, not necessarily due to jealousy, but mostly because he believes that Harold is a "Sissy, smarmy, annoyin' hole diggin' bastard" and of course he really hates the fact he tries to bed women using charm, rather than the more traditional method of impressing her with feats of war

Nicolaos Karenz

Caithair's relationship with Nicolaos is....a complex one. On the one hand he deeply resents being in the employ of a foreigner, particularly one who he is indebted to. On the other he does have a slightly grudging respect for Nicolaos' ability to fight and finds that Nicolaos' issues with authority give him more chances to vent out his frustrations at his position and the rather...unexpected delay to his attempts to become the new Ard Ruine. Normally Caithair would take issue at Nicolaos' worship of a god other than his own lands "old gods" (particularly the blood god) however, all the battles Nicolaos gets them into provides more than enough Souls and blood for his gods, in Caithair's opinion anyway, so he accepts Nicolaos' worship of Hall.

Darwin Roday

Caithair is very wary and suspicious of Darwin. He has never seen or heard of an Avian before, and has the nagging suspicion that Darwin is in fact a demon bird who wants to eat his eyes and drink his bone marrow. And even WORSE than being a demon bird Darwin doesn't even drink properly!. All this combined means Caithair really doesn't trust him and tends to avoid Darwin where he can.

Lissa Dragomier

Cathair finds Lissa a curiosity and finds her ability to set fire to things at will rather interesting and usually spends his time with her trying to convince Lissa to teach him how she summons fire. Other than that he isn't particularly interested in her and while he doesn't hate her (well, hate her as much as he hates most of the rest of the group) he doesn't really make any effort to become friendly with her.

Nex Addo

Cathair has a special place of dislike for Nex, he finds the hooded man intensely annoying. Not because he relies on magic necessarily, but because he always, ALWAYS goes out of his way to make Cathair look the fool. Correcting Cathair all the time, pointing out every teensy tiny flaw in his plans and acting all smart and high and mighty just because he'd spend his life....reading. There is no love lost between the pair and Cathair will go out of his way to make Nex's life difficult where he can and tends to be more even volatile than usual around the man.

Setsuna Ando

Cathair finds Setsuna very tiresome and is prone to snapping at him. While he likes the fact Setsuna is blunt Cathair cannot stand his pointless sense of Chivalry and honour, and regularly enjoys telling Setsuna that it is a fools code and generally a pointless ideal to uphold.

Ishman

Cathair, despite respecting Ishman's battle prowess finds the man to be... Hard to deal with, his strict discipline and upbringing is an Anathema to Cathair and Cathair has great difficulty understanding why a warrior wouldn't enjoy killing his foes. Unfortunately, Cathair holds a grudge against Ishman. On one of their first nights Ishman tried to get Cathair to cook his meal for him and....Cathair took this as a great insult, and has yet to forgive Ishman for the transgression against his person.

Jimmy 'Kage' Kuneto

At first, Cathair believed him and Jimmy could be friends...Or at least not at each others throats, they both used ambush tactics and would do whatever they had to achieve their aims however Jimmy's constant attempts to save women and children get on Cathair's nerves and the fact Jimmy has gotten in Cathair's way once or twice has soured their relationship further.

Acan Moread

Cathair surprisingly, doesn't have any sort of grudge with Acan, he finds the man a little strange, and of course dislikes the fact he's foreign, but beyond Cathair's usual bad temperament and xenophobia there is surprisingly little conflict between the pair... For now anyway

Estia Barackson

Cathair doesn't exactly hate Estia, but he certainly doesn't like her, he distrusts her because she's an elf, and finds her constant attempts to preserve life and avoid conflict highly annoying and has a habit of deliberately sabotaging these efforts to avoid conflict.

Maria Cyan

Cathair finds Maria's mothering tendencies get on his nerves rather quickly and he snaps at her quite a bit, he already has one mother and he doesn't wish for another one.

Aidan Donovan am Delian

Cathair reserves a special place of utter hatred and contempt for Aidan in his heart. Not only is he a foreigner, he is from Tylwythau Treftadaeth Etifedd, his peoples most hated enemy. Aidan has a far, far worse transgression however, during one of their many skirmishes when Cathair was raiding Aidan's homeland, Aidan gave Cathair the scar upon his face, not outright killing him, but almost blinding him, and for this Cathair has held a grudge ever since, swearing to repay Aidan for his "Gift" ten fold. The fact they are both in the same group causes great tensions for Cathair who regularly comes to blows with Aidan, usually one of the pair being dragged away before anyone manages to get severely hurt. On the battlefield however, this hatred seems to work in the teams favour, Cathair is pushed to even greater feats of bravery (or insanity depending upon ones view point) To show Aidan up and will go out of his way to kill as many of the enemy as possible. And of course, he wants to make sure Aidan stays alive, nobody but Cathair is going to get the pleasure of killing him.

Name: Jimmy 'Kage' Kuneto - Kage is assassin codename
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Race: Human (Unknown/Antigar)

Appearance: Just under 6ft tall with a kind of small build. Slightly tanned skin with green eyes and pure white hair. Jimmy is always clean shaven and well groomed. Jimmy is normally seen wearing the black cloak that has come to be known as the trademark of the Assassins Guild of Antigar. He only has the cloaks hood up on missions. Jimmy carries 2 pure white katana on his back and has a silver bracelet on his right wrist that symbolizes his passing of the Masters Call and becoming a Master Assassin.

Personality: Jimmy is normally very casual and laid back. He enjoys having a good laugh. While he is on a job he is always deadly serious. Jimmy has a policy of not killing women or children and will often go out of his way to prevent them from being killed, however if you are old enough to be using a weapon you are no longer a child in his eyes.  Jimmy prefers using stealth and ambush techniques to take out his targets or complete his missions however his skill at dual wielding his katana allows him to fight rather well on open battlefields as well.  Jimmy respects anyone who shows skill and power. Jimmy treasures his katanas more then anything as they are his only link to his past. He will often jokingly complain if they are gonna get dirty due to killing or hiding. Above all else Jimmy loves a good challenge. The more challenging the mission the more fun he has and the more effort he puts in

Special Abilities: Due to his assassin's training Jimmy is extremely stealthy and can move silently. He is also extremely skilled and camoflage and can move with ease in darkness.  He has nearly mastered the use of his ki and uses it in devestating bursts of speed or power when neccessary.  He can also quickly unsheath the daggers he keeps stored in the sleaves of his cloak. Once again due to his training Jimmy is proficient in Martial Arts. Jimmy has also inherited a rather unique genetic ability from his father. If someone close to him is in life threatening danger time slows down for Jimmy. So far the only thing Jimmy has discovered he is able to do is dodge bullets or strikes with ease, if only for a limited amount of time

Items of Interest: 2 pure white katana with back scabbard. that are his only keepsakes from his Dad. 2 sleave sheathed daggers and 2 two shot pistols.

History: Not much is known about where Jimmy was born. He was found at the age of 1 by a member of the Guild in a village that had been burnt to the ground. All that was left of the village was a small boy and 2 white katana. Jimmy acceled at his assassin training and was second in his class. Jimmy completed his Masters Call at the age of 17 and became a fully fledged assassin. The only mission Jimmy has ever failed was when a noble sent him to kill Nicolaos. Jimmy joined the Wings of Hall on a request to the Assasins Guild.

Picture: http://i.imgur.com/BJV9l.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/BJV9l.jpg) Closest i could find to my mental image of Jimmy. Picture that with green eyes a hood where the collar is and the katanas strapped to his back

Relationships:
Harold Bjornson: Jimmy is impressed with the way Harold acts with the ladies while he is drunk. The split personality doesnt seem to bother Jimmy and he doesnt mind spending time with Harold.
Nicolaos Karenz: Jimmy tends to act a bit awkward towards Nicolaos due to trying to kill him in the past. However he greatly respects Nicolaos abilitys as he is the only contract he has failed to complete.
Darwin Roday: Jimmy doesnt mind that Darwin doesnt like to talk much and wouldnt mind going occasionally for a quiet drink. Jimmy also respects the fact that Darwin doesnt want to talk about his past and that he only kills when he has to.
Lissa Dragomier: Jimmy enjoys spending time with Lissa as they are the same age. He feels quite close to her. Also due to his morals/policy he would go out of his way to protect her.  Jimmy also secretly thinks Lissa is cute.
Nex Addo: Jimmys relationship with Nex is kind of complicated. It is mainly based around wit and sarcasm(mainly about Nex's age :) ) However deep down Jimmy greatly respects Nex and occasionally allows that respect to surface. Jimmy also greatly enjoys. competing in contests of sneakyness with Nex.
Setsuna Ando: Jimmy respects Setsuna's skill with a sword and would like to spar with him one day. Jimmy also feels sympathetic towards Setsuna for what has happened in his past.
Ishman: Jimmy gets along with Ishman as they are rather close in age. Above all else Jimmy respects Ishman's combat abilitys and would love to reguarly spar with him.
Cathair: Jimmy greatly respects Cathair's ambush skills and battle prowess. However their relationship is kind of soured by Cathairs lack or morals and attempts to kill woman and children.  Jimmy has even had to step in a few times to prevent this from happening.
Acan Moread: Jimmy respects Acan's skills with a crossbow and magic. Although Acan isnt very social Jimmy enjoys talking to him(even if it is just to hear the sound of his own voice)
Estia Barackson: Jimmy's relationship with Estia is kind of like his relationship with Lissa. He enjoys spending time/feels close to her due to similar age(if your using human equivalent) Once again due to his morals/policy he will go out of his way to protect Estia.
Maria Cyan: Due to being raised by the Assassin's Guild Jimmy tends to think of Maria as a motherly figure in his life. Once again due to his morals/policy he will go out of his way to protect her.
Aidan Donovan am Delian: Jimmy respects Aidan's battle prowess however other then that he doesnt really know what to make of him and tends to act awkwardly around him.

So here's our rogue/assassin type. Welcome! When we meet next in the cbox, I might have some potential character pics for you, if you'd like to check them out.

The character is fine otherwise, but I must ask, what's with the swords? Your character doesn't know, but I'm sure you have some idea of why they're white and what are their secrets. PM me if you wish to keep it a secret.

Cathair looks interesting. I love the personality, this should be interesting. ;D Out of curiosity, is it on purpose that the name is Dalradia and not Dalriada, the ancient name of the Scots? The character is fine, I suppose he'll do in the lack of a proper genius with out-of-the-box ideas. However, we should decide, to whom did he get indebted to? One of the Wings of Hall, or someone else, maybe Nicolaos bought his debt? Also, since he has many valuable items, I assume he has a reason why he won't be parted with them?

Now, as the start of the RP draws near, each of you should give some thought to your relationships with the other group members. Who do you get along with and who do you not get along with? Have you forged bonds of friendship? Is there someone you hate and despise? Anybody fall for Lissa yet? This is your chance to further develop your character's personality.

For my own part, my guy is quite distant and closed, he probably hasn't made any close friendships. However, he also kind of gets along with everyone, because he doesn't judge, he shows a measure of respect for everyone, and it's practically impossible to make him mad at you. He goes out of his way to make sure everyone stays alive, even if it endangers the completion of the mission, so it'd seem he kind of cares for everyone. He doesn't care if your personality is despicable or annoying, as long as you're strong/useful and follow his orders.

Oh, and Infinity, one female character is more than I expected. Whether she's happy with her man-harem or distressed to be alone among us is for her player to decide...

Aye, i decided to corrupt the name of the Irish raiders attacking Scotland, hoping to disguise my lack of imagination when it comes to names ;)

And he wouldn't be parted with them because they are all ritual in many ways, signs of his prowess in battle, for him to part with his jewellery would be akin to admitting the foreigner he gave them to was a better warrior than he.

Nicolaos would make some sense aye.

Caithair shows an arrogant disdain for just about everyone in the group, because they're all foreigners, but unless they outright go out of their way to annoy him/he takes something as an insult then he'll hold a grudge for a loonngg while. He does have one HATED enemy on the team, whose character sheet has yet to be posted, so that one can be worked out later

Ishman doesn't really hate, or like for that matter, anyone.

Hmmh.. I think I'll add that to the char sheet.

Lissa gets along with Jimmy a bit more than others since they are around the same age, but she doesn't dislike anyone in their team either.
She tries so solve the conflicts in the team when they occur. Lissa is easy to get along with but hard to anger.
She isn't too uncomfortable with that the team only consists of men except her because she can defend herself if they try something. She may be a girl but she is still dangerous and frightening.

Since we already have more players that I expected to get, a strict turn system might not be viable at this point. I've worked out a set of exceptions, when you can post even if it's not your turn:
- If the one whose turn it is hasn't posted in 24 hours and it isn't crucial that he does, we'll delay the turn, change the turn order.
- If someone's unconscious or says OOC that he has nothing to do with his turn, we'll naturaly skip the turn.
- If you're engaged in dialogue with a limited number of other characters, it makes no sense to wait, just hold to the turn order among those who are engaged in the dialogue.
- Same goes for duels and such, when the rest of the group just watches from the sidelines.
- If the party splits up into, say, two groups, then those groups will have their own turn order which ignores the other group.
- If you're controlling an NPC and it makes sense for you to move that character outside your own turn, go ahead. This rule will be often invoked by me, the GM, since I'll be controlling the majority of the NPC's.
- If someone disappears without a word, I'll play his character out of the game. Please don't disappear.

More may be added if I, or someone else, come up with other sensible exceptions.

Name: Acan Moread
Gender: Male
Age: 39
Race: Human

Appearance: There's little special in Acan's looks. He carries himself well, but his short black hair is already starting to show the signs of age. He stands quite tall, but his slight figure hardly raises respect in this regard either. His face shows really sharp features, highlighted by how his skin seems as if badly stretched in order to cover him. Maybe due to this, his dark, green eyes never seem to be able to give up on their wary look, even when Acan is relaxed. His skin is quite pale, due to his heritage. He has quite an untidy stubble on his chin. All in all he seems a little less pleasant company than he actually is.

Acan's clothing is strictly professional and mostly covered by his light armor made of dark leather. Over it he does carry a chainshirt when prepared for combat.

Personality: Acan is hardly social, but he's not all that unpleasant company if you get past his unwelcoming looks. He can be quite a cynic if he's not slept well enough, but he usually tries to at the very least avoid insulting anyone. Which isn't really hard for him, for he's comfortable in just about any company. He doesn't like just anyone, but you'll have to make quite an effort to make him actually dislike you. He's surprisingly happy with everyone on the team, even the ones that might have negative attitudes to him. Similarly, he's calm in just about any situation. He's good at convincing himself that he's seen worse whenever he sees anything upsetting.

Special Abilities: Acan is extremely dangerous with his crossbow, but it's not the reason he's part of the group. He's there to kill mages. His own magical power is very limited, but he's developed a skill to convert it to very advanced forms. He's specialized in disrupting the magic of other mages. He doesn't have the ability to compete with anyone in a head on in this matter, but he's capable of very complicated tricks to destroy the very fabric of the magic he's faced with, disrupting the mage's control of it.

Items of Interest: Carries a very large crossbow, clearly his most formidable tool for this work. It might not be the very largest weapon of the type that a grizzled veteran has seen, but it still seems quite massive for how effortlessly Acan seems to use it.

History: There's nothing special about Acan's childhood. He grew up in quite a large town in a small kingdom, in a family of low class workers. Nothing special about the town either, at least until Acan reached the age of thirteen. Around that time the town welcomed a new priesthood, the servants of a young but quite an ambitious god. While the arguments of gods were often quite a bit of trouble for humans, this god was way more involved with the world of mortals than might be seen as normal. He wasn't afraid of lending his servants his full strength as long as he could expect to gain something from it.
As Acan grew up to a young man the power of the priesthood quickly took over the control of the town. While there was nothing particularly wrong in what they preached, they got way too involved in the worldly affairs. A few of the god's foremost followers were eager to abuse their power to further, not only their god's, but also their own control, while others were completely fanatical. It didn't take long until just about everything in the town and near it had to somehow be devoted to this god's new found might.
At first Acan cared little about it, but in time it simply went too far. People who dared to voice any disagreement with the priests were silenced, at which point the townsfolk started getting really wary of them. But at that point there was basically nothing to stop them from getting involved in everything in the town. In time it came to a point where a priest's word was simply the law, and none of the priests knew the word 'law'.
That, of course, didn't happen unopposed. It wasn't rare for a priest to be found with his throat cut in some alley. Which was answered brutally by the priesthood. Such struggle continued for long, but there was simply no way to get rid of the priesthood now that their god possessed much greater power. However, Acan did things differently, and far more efficiently, as was his way. He had acquired much better chances for doing something about the situation because of an unexpected ally. For quite a few years had the young man been trained by and old mage with quite a bit of power. The fact that a mage of his level was even alive in the town where everything deemed able to threaten the priesthood was usually eliminated quickly, was quite surprising. The problem was that they weren't quite ready to engage in an all out magical war which would have likely blown up a good part of the town. Neither side could engage each other directly, and were forced to look for other ways. The old mage happened to turn out luckier in that, since he had Acan.
Acan was fit and capable young man, as well as certainly willing at the point they had come to. He didn't have the ability to use magical power in any great quantity, but that wasn't what one needed. A mortal to match the power of a god was... hard to find. Instead, Acan showed ability in many other things. It took years, but in time he was well capable of more than surviving the magical power the priests could throw at him, with his quite advanced way of converting his normally weak magical power. Yet he couldn't do anything with just that. He had to become a mage killer. He had never thought of killing one at that point of his live, mind you, but he had to be able to kill a lot of people with massive magical power to shield themselves with. As such he was prepared with various other skills and items, like with a crossbow, though not as large one as he the one he carries today.
And then, after many years he decided to act. In one night he slaughtered almost the whole priesthood, even though he was faced with massive odds. In one night, and then Acan was done and put a close to the last almost ten years of his live. Or so he thought.

In truth Acan has never escaped that single night. He's in peace with the fact that his actions weren't entirely morally justifiable, but after such a show he is still known and feared. Ironically, he never wanted to kill a single simple magician even with his skills, yet he was pushed to it by mages, who perceived him as a danger. First he had to kill the man who had taught him all those years, for the mage was terrified by what he had done after his apprentice had practically just about killed a god, and tried to bury his mistake by simply killing Acan. These two things alerted every capable magician near the town. Who died soon too.
Acan did his best to escape this. He enlisted to several armies and quite a few mercenary companies. But he never could. After half a dozen years of this he was quite infamous and in the end he found himself considering the people so terrified of him no more worthy than the priesthood he slaughtered. And so he decided grimly to give them a reason for their terror; through the last dozen years before joining this current bunch he killed quite a few mages, many of them quite formidable. Money can be earned in many ways, and he had one very few others could utilize. He has nothing against mages and priests in general, funnily enough, but he's come to realize it doesn't matter as long as they have so much to hold against him. And so he's with the Wings of Hall for one simple reason: To kill mages for a pay.

(I might have got a little carried away with the character's history, just after whining that I had nothing to write in it to my brother (Krozam)... And it's not really even half of what I wanted to write. :P)

The character is fine. An interesting history, I recommend everyone read it, even if it is a little long.

I decided to up my character's ability a little, a swordmaster instead of just being skilled. We have so many monstrous ki-users and other strong people, he was threatened to get overshadowed, and since he's the leader everyone's supposed to respect at least a little, I couldn't allow that. :P

So now we have warriors, scout, sapper, 1 super powered mage that gets tired easily, i'd say we need a mage that ain't that powerful but can keep up casting lots of spells :P
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC

What we need is high-powered magic artillery. Nex is knowledgeable and in theory also powerful, but he's a last option -kind of guy, we can't use him all the time. Nicolaos and Acan can cast spells more easily, but they lack raw power. We need someone who can throw around huge fireballs but lacks the skill to do any complicated magic, and is weak if someone gets close.

But, I suppose we'll have to settle with the enemy having no such advantage either (since we have a mage-killer in the group).

Name:Estia Barackson
Gender:Female
Age:68 (The equivalent of ~19 years compared with human lifespans)
Race:Elf
Appearance: Medium Height and thin, 5'8" at 140lb, Medium length silver-white hair usually tied in a pony tail. Deep turquoise eyes with a small nose and lips. Clothed in simple clothing of the time, conservative and non-revealing. Made from light, soft but strong fabric with pastel tones, particularly light cyan trimmed with magenta. Wears a silver amulet shaped like a tree with boughs and roots showing intertwined around a blue sapphire crystal which emits a soft blue glow.

Personality: Reserved but friendly. Doesn't outwardly approach others, but will respond when spoken to. Holds high honor to someone's word. Intelligent but not book-smart. Likes to stay away from the heat of the battle and look for ways to avoid bloodshed. Tries to avoid killing things as much as possible. A vegetarian who will eat meat if necessary. Won't back down from a challenge

Special Abilities: Trained in archery since a very young, extremely skilled. Started adding spells to arrows after her mother introduced it to her, still getting the hang of it. Excels in water, light and air spells. Has trouble with Dark and earth spells. Decent with fire. Has extensive knowledge of plants and can use them for healing, but has no experience with healing magic. [Could be used in tandem with magic healing for more efficient heals, possibly interested in learning]

Items of Interest: A bow crafted from a sacred yew tree, allows for further and more accurate shots. An amulet from her mother, can be tapped into for magic, takes a long time to recharge. An essentially bottomless quiver enchanted by the assassins guild, given to her by her father. The Quiver works by pulling arrows that have already been shot by her to be used again. It can run out if she breaks the arrows, so new ones must be added eventually.

History: Born to middle class family, had two younger brothers that she took care of. Mother was a healer in the elvish guild, father was a bowman in the assassins guild. Left home when she was 60 to explore the world, met up with the group 7 years later after running into them somewhere. Quickly made friends with Lissa Dragomier and thinks of Maria like a strong female figure to look up to.

Right... I like the the character, but I have a few minor issues with it:

1) 19 is very young for a long-lived race like elves. Barely in her teens, I'd say. Then again, nobody said elves need to be long-lived in this world, we could have them live around as long as humans and develop at the same pace. Your choice, since yours is the only elven character.

2) Normal herbal healing in a world where healing magic exists is next to useless, at least when it comes to wounds and with people who don't have time to wait for the wounds to heal. Since they contain magic, an alchemist or a mage could draw out their magic and use it for healing, but you say your character has no experience with healing magic...

3) Ki cannot be stored, at least anywhere else but a living body. Magic can, so you can still have the amulet, it just won't work for ki.

4) A bottomless quiver? As in one that will never run out of arrows? Now, I'm not saying you can't have it, and I'm not saying it's impossible with the magic system, but you better have a good explanation on how it works.

5) Who's Maria? The second character Infinity is planning?

On an unrelated note, great sig... Tayutama was pretty good, except for the ending.

I could try I guess... The Maria thing was more of a suggestion for a name. The Maria I deleted was a character that was not in sync with this worlds magic...

We could always work out another kind of magic. Trust me, this system is very versatile, you can do many interesting things. We could discuss it with PM's?

Halo, are you going to do something about the unfinished part? Also, you can remove the red text once you've done your edits.

We'll start the RP tomorrow, I'm too tired to write up the opening post now.

I noticed something. Some characters are convinced they're the best at something.

Who has actual control over the fighting abilities? I'm assuming Krozam.

As for relationships, he despises the Cathairs underhanded ways, hates Harolds split personality, hates Nicolas's once in a while preaching of Hall, hates Darwins over played charisma...

I could keep going but the premise is that Setsuna still hasn't learned to see the good in people, being Isolated most of his life, so he inwardly despises most of the guild, highly respects some, and openly disrespects Cathairs when the chance presents itself. His tpungue is made of sharp silver (Metaphor)

Since I said I was doing a second character, I will. Dealz with it. I think I'll stick to personality with this one. And maybe a healer.

Name: Maria Cyan
Gender: Female
Age: 38
Race: Human

Appearance
First Spoiler in signature.

Personality -- (Going for the motherly type. Not that a mercenary group needs a mother but... Maybe when Nex needs someone to scold the others)

Tends to look out for the females of the group. Not that they need it. Someone to watch over the group from a distance and take action only when needed.

Abilities
While the knife says otherwise, she's actually a healer. The knife with a soul floating out is actually a good friend of hers who wants to be called George. He can sense the life energy of people and tell her if someones sick, hurt, dead, etc. Using George to pinpoint the point of pain (P.O.P) she uses divine magic to cure an ailment, mend broken bones. She's pretty good but she can't yet bring someone completely back from the brink of death. She can keep you alive until you get back from that point though, so no worries. Although she's the devil in disguise to anyone who hates medicine.

History
She was born in the midst of civil war. Her family hid inside a forest during the early stages of her life. Before she could fully even say her mothers name, the war took her family away. She was left for dead when an old, caring, man came along to take care of her. But this wasn't any old man. This man was one of the revered masters of magic, out on a walk looking at the devastation the civil war had brought to the country. He brought her up in his study where she was surrounded by books on the essence and source of magic. He noticed her affinity while reading those books, and at the age of 10, officially asked her to become his pupil, to 'Carry on his way' as he had said. She learned that her master followed the teachings of the goddess Ilrion, a god of nature who had a large amount of followers, many of them revered healers. Following in his footsteps she began training to pull a small amount of Ilrion's power for healing purposes.

Training for ten years, she finally achieved the right to call her a magical healer at the age of 22. She won't speak of what happened in between, but you can pick out something along the lines of 'Teenage Love Angst' trouble.

Setting off to make a name of herself after gaining the title, she headed out north. During the second week, she was stuck in a brutal storm. As she was near a small mountain range, finding a cave to shelter herself was easy. That's where she met 'George' her talking, soul infused knife. At first, she was surprised at why a knife had a lost soul in it. She soon came to accept that it was what it was.

She and George traveled the world until finally meeting Nicolas, a man who asked her to join his mercenary group as a healer. She already knew of both the good and bad deeds an assassin's group could do, and after deciding Nicolas was a 'Good young man', she joined. Along with George, who to this day, has become the witty, humored, insulting character of the group. He's talkative, and only Maria can really stand him.

Items of Interest
The Knife.
Her hood is actually the blanket she was found wrapped in when her master found her.
The bracelet on her left hand. It's just a simple charm that holds some magic power in case she needs extra.

Relationships

Harold Bjornson: Oogles over his trust in people. Her somewhat hidden distrust in people is part of this.
Nicolas Karenz: Wishes he were older... But since she isn't, treats him like a younger friend outside of missions.
Darwin Roday: Admires his constant training to become stronger. Always their to give him a push.
Lissa Dragomier: She's like a daughter to her. If the guild is hurt, she always runs up to her and Estia to make sure they're all right. "Being men, they can wait."
Nex Addo: She finds him to be the vast wealth of knowledge he is. She just wishes he didn't act like an old man during the groups downtime.
Setsuna Ando: Can't understand why he can't talk to her very well. Then again, he's like that around all woman...
Ishman: Doesn't like his 'You're all my servants' attitude. Treats him like the rebellious teenager of the group.
Cathair: While she will admit he's vulgar, she admires the mans determination and tactical prowess. Won't hesitate to follow his orders.
Jimmy 'Kage' Kuneto: He seems to mysterious to her. But she treats him with the respect he deserves.
Acan Moread: She won't admit it but she's smitten by the man just for his politeness. Just wishes he didn't sometimes have the urge to kill her as she was a mage.
Estia Barckson: Treats her as the 'pure, innocent little girl' of the group. Will always take a hit for her if she can. And she expects everyone else to do so.
Aidan Donovan am Delian: She likes him. Treats him like a little brother. She also wants him and Cathair to 'Get along'.

Notes
This is my much improved version of Maria Cyan! If you (Krozam) have any problems with her, please tell me and I'll fix them. I'm guessing the biggest problem will be George.

If you MUST speak to me, you should call me Puddle.

I noticed something. Some characters are convinced they're the best at something.

Who has actual control over the fighting abilities? I'm assuming Krozam.
Depends on the situation. In a fight between two player characters, it's between their players. In a routine fight, the players can usually decide how they kill (or whatever they do) their NPC enemies. In a "boss fight", where I control the NPC's, it's much like in a fight between two PC's, only I'm the other party. As a general rule, apart from the routine encounters, the receiver decides if the strike lands.

Personality -- (Going for the motherly type. Not that a mercenary group needs a mother but... Maybe when Nex needs someone to scold the others)
"My personality?" I asked.
"Yeah. I want to know what I'm getting into letting you join," Nicolas replied.
"Oh. Well, I think I'm a caring, loving, gentle, soft spoken woman."
"Hell."
"What's wrong?"
"You're just like my mother..."
LOL! I actually laughed aloud at that. I haven't the slightest clue what kind of a mother Nicolaos had, though... His history is still largely a mystery to me, especially his childhood.

Abilities
While the knife says otherwise, she's actually a healer. The knife with a soul floating out is actually a good friend of hers who wants to be called George. He can sense the life energy of people and tell her if someones sick, hurt, dead, etc. Using George to pinpoint the point of pain (P.O.P) she uses light magic to cure an ailment, mend broken bones. She's pretty good but she can't yet bring someone completely back from the brink of death. She can keep you alive until you get back from that point though, so no worries. Although she's the devil in disguise to anyone who hates medicine.
It seems you have a bit different understanding of light magic than I do. My light magic is literally light magic, it's light manipulation. Illusions, blinding lights, invisibility, at high level even destructive beams... Healing is non-elemental, mainly divine magic's stuff, though there are a few other convertable energy forms that can be used to heal (somewhat less efficiently). To go into technical details, divine magic forces the patient's body to heal faster than normal, lending it some of the needed energy, but heavily draining the body of its own energy reserves. Ki healing is a bit slower, because it consumes only ki, it doesn't force the body to participate (though if it's self-healing, the results are very similar, since ki is in large part life-energy). This also explains why they are so effective when used together: the ki-healer lends the patient energy, which the body uses to heal itself, forced by the divine magic. Normally, healing severe wounds includes a risk of the patient's life energy running out, but when done this way, there's very little risk of the patient dying. There is a convertible form of magic that replicates the effect of ki healing, as well as one that manipulates the body directly (affects the blood and flesh and bones themselves, requiring good knowledge of anatomy as well as expert control) and probably some other ways that I can't be bothered to invent right now. If you want to be a very powerful healer, I suggest you either get a god to supply the power or learn to convert elemental magic to divine magic (which is entirely possible, one of the easiest and most common conversions).

I have no problem with George. :P

She and George traveled the world until finally meeting Nicolas, a man who asked her to join his mercenary guild as a healer. She already knew of both the good and bad deeds an assassin's guild could do, and after deciding Nicolas was a 'Good young man', she joined. Along with George, who to this day, has become the witty, humored, insulting character of the guild. He's talkative, and only Maria can really stand him.
We're not an actual guild, we don't have the numbers or the organization. We're just a small mercenary band. Also, I find it amusing that she'd call the 28 years old Nicolaos a "young man", while she's just a decade older. :P

Also... why Puddle? I'd love to hear the story behind that nick... ;D

Name: Aidan Donovan am Delian
Gender: Male
Age: 34
Race: Human(of the lands of Tylwythau Treftadaeth Etifedd)
Appearance: Aidan stands around 6'2 with a well toned form and bright blond hair.  He tends to wear a heavy cloth cloak and a couple leather harnesses, but otherwise is completed naked and bare to he world, his body covered in tribal paint patterns that grants him divine protection and ability.  He carries a large round shield made with a dense wooden core framed by steel, the center painted with a war banner of his order.  He also has a carved wooden spear tipped with a simple steel tip, and 3 foot sword with an intricately carved hilt from his homeland.

Personality: Aidan is normally relatively calm, even if he can be blunt or crude about things without much thought.  Despite tis, when someone annoys him he is given to fits of rage-which is made worse by his Ki abilities since often times when he flies into a fury he releases a shockwave of fear without even noticing it.  Beyond this, he tends to be encouraging of fights due to his background, believing combat an excellent way to settle differences and preferable to diplomacy.  He also is slightly disdainful of those who wear armor, or those who follow the life of a peasant and think themselves above warriors.  Both he believes are weaker men and women who should know their place.

Special Abilities: His abilities are drawn from his heritage.  His homeland is beset by war caused by ancient rivalry and endless cycles of a warrior tradition.  Though he is nude, the painted marks on his skin bless him with his patron god of war from his homeland, hardening his flesh and enhancing his physical abilities.  Alongside this he possesses skills in many styles of group warfare, from scattered to formation.  He is able to do basics of training and has the very arts flowing in his blood.  His last ability is perhaps his most notable-he has a line of advanced Ki abilities that were taught to him by his warrior society at home, the ability to expand his Ki as auras around him, enhancing allies or debilitating foes.

Items of Interest:
A tribal sword made of simple but strong steel from his homeland, the grip and guard are a design marking his family and tribe.
Woad Paint, a special paint mixture steeped in legend and religious lore from his homeland.  It has been blessed by a priest, and he has a good stock on him should he ever need to replace his "armor".  By drawing the paint in holy symbols on his skin, he draws upon divine blessing.
Heavy Tight Wove Cloak-this allows him to curl up in colder weather, as well as prevent backstabbing or projectiles from catching him from behind in combat.  It also doesn't feel good to be whipped by in a fight.
A large banner round shield, it is of a heavy hardwood, thick and over a meter in diamete.  It's edge is sealed with hardened steel, and the face painted with the war banner of his old warrior society, marking him proud of the heritage and of his abilities-not that the markings would be known to many around here.
A tribal spear, the shaft hard carved from a solid branch of oak by him and tipped with a steel tip.

History: I was born in the lands of Tylwythau Treftadaeth Etifedd far to the north, to the tribe of Delian, to the line of Donovan, to the given name of Aidan.  From birth I was taught the arts of combat, as well as various peasant arts for times when raids were rare and loot scattered.  Upon reaching the age of twelve, I stood before my elders and was tested with my teachings to enter the ranks of the raiders.  My village had been raided before, and I had tasted combat, but I had yet to be initiated as a true warrior yet.  I stood before the trials of arms and cunning, and fought hard.  Veteran warriors were my goes, but I proved my skills and received the rights of the warrior-but adulthood would still be a ways off.

I stripped from my clothes, and stood besides several other boys and girls who had also aptly proved themselves.  We stood at attention there, bare before the world, fully vulnerable as we witnessed a priest of the God of War step forward, carrying a jar of blue paint.  He blessed our rising, and so were we painted, elders coming forth to draw the holy designs upon our bare skin.  I could feel the divine power pulse in the paint, feel my birthright cover me in a shell of protection that no mortal armor could.  I stood proud beside my brothers and sisters, young and supple flesh that had been fed from my mothers breast and soon would feast from the wounds of my enemies, weened.

We set forth, taking to he seas with the elder warriors and raiding a village that was not far away.  It was peace, but it was our duty to he gods to raid our neighbors.  We struck out and fought the defenders, swarming with a cry and quickly taking them down.  My first blood, and the first of many raids.

Time went on, and I reached adulthood, my raids continuing, my battle prowess growing.  Eventually, a lord noticed me, and took a liking.  Shortly after I was approached by a warrior society, being drawn into their influential ranks.  Cyfeillachwr Swyddog Maes, that was my new title.  My tribe was no longer my true home, my family was no longer my closest supporters.  I was taken in and taught to meld the energies of men and there fervor, both of devotion and fear.  I was taught to draw the best from my allies with powerful speeches blessed by the ancient powers.

And in that lifestyle I find myself approaching the modern day.  That Dalradian bastard Cathair had raised a war party of his people, leading there dishonorable bloodthirsty hides south to raid many lands and butcher many.  My society was allied with one of his enemies, and I was assigned to the warband hunting him.  We fought hard, and slayed many, but had to fall back due to him getting lucky and having an opportunity to drive off half our force.  We had to flee through the waterways as he chased, finding ourselves in the Morwrol am Trancedigaeth, the rock filled waters where storms rise from the seas themselves to crush the unwary.  A storm erupted and destroyed both our fleets, crushing them along the rocks and casting us into the sea.

Me and some others awoke on cold shores far from our home, only a couple of out possessions held close to use in what we believed death with us.  We stood, naked and bare before the wind blowing from the sea.  We glanced at each other and took our stuff, heading inland.  It is suicide to approach our home from sea, and the mountain passes are controlled by hated enemies.  We had no choice but to travel further afield.

Eventually, I heard of the man who had that bastard warlord Caith in bondage, and came to get a laugh at him and his fate-and then stayed on.

also Caithair hates Aidan, partially because Aidan is from Tylwythau trefadaeth etifedd and partially because Aidan gave Caithair the scar on his face during their fights.

I finally took the time to properly think through Nicolaos' past, and in the process finally figured out his driving force. I edited the personality a little. I won't update my history, it shall remain a mystery to you lot... but I might do a thorough examination on his attitude towards the different party members, now that I know a little more about him. He still treats them all fairly, but naturally he likes some people better than others.

Edit: By the way, Puddle, I now know that Nicolaos' mother was nothing like Maria. ;D

I might write a person by person review of Ishman's relationships, though it might be a boring read. Ishman has no strong feelings for anyone :D

I'll hopefully get through other people's posts soon, and get a relationship chart of my own up.  Someone else was supposed to show up, a female warrior from the war party I was with, but seems she's lagging behind(Kitsune have such horrible timing, right Krozam? :P).  Yay for naked men and women carving bloody paths through peasant populations!

@Krozam
I'm assuming that's what your mothers like (As this is stereotypical, yet true) of most mothers.

Teh Magic
Literal light magic? I could just change it into Divine Healing Magic. I'll update when I come up with something. I thought you'd be pissed with George xD

Relationships
She tends to act like the mother of the group. Thus forth, her actions to the guild are motherly (To those younger of course.) To the older part of the group (Nex and one other guy I can't think of), she's a simple, trustworthy friend. She's also very convincing. If we need Nex to do something, she'll probably come up with a way to trick him into doing it.

Ok, what the hell was I thinking? First I put up a rule "Write in present tense"... Then I start the RP in past tense! *facepalm*

No way I'm changing that post, so let's change the rules. Past tense and 3rd person, please. It's no big deal, but some people are bothered if the tense or person change all the time.

I would highly suggest third person, present tense for those who are beginning. First person should be used when you need more insight at what the character is feeling and how the character views his/her actions.

In fact...

EXAMPLES

Third Person, Present Tense
He is doing the unthinkable.
She is drinking glass after glass of beer!
Holy hell! Krozam is making an RP?!

Third Person, Past Tense
He did the unthinkable.
She was drinking glass after glass of beer! (Confusion? In conversation, the line 'She Was' refers to something that already happened.)
Holy hell! Krozam made an RP?!

First Person, Present Tense
I am doing the unthinkable.
I'm drinking glass after glass of beer!
Holy hell! Krozam is making an RP?!

First Person, Past Tense
I was doing the unthinkable.
I was drinking glass after glass of beer!
Holy hell! Krozam made an RP?!

(Notice that in First Person, no matter the tense, you always address others as you would in third person.)

Complete Redo of Irie's first RP Post
(I had to. It would haunt me for too long. I'll stick to his basic premise even though there IS no castle town...)

He takes a seat, having traveled far too long without rest. He stabs his blade into the ground below him. He looks to the sky, aching to spread his wings and soar. The vast expanse of the night sky seems to hold his gaze in ransom for something more than what it really is.

He decides to walk around a nearby town while he waits for Nicolas to return with news of their penetration of this impenetrable fortress.

He reaches for his pouch of water, only to notice it's empty. A nearby well fixes that problem. It's as he fills his water up that he notices the young woman looking through the selection offered by the bakery. He watches as she carefully chooses her bread, a trained, motherly eye looking for even the smallest of flaws.

Before he can greet her, he notices Nicolas leaving the main encampment and rushes back.

"Lets go," Nicolas says.

He grabs his sword and places it on his back. Pity he didn't get to learn that girls name.

(My main problem was how he just says 'Darwin...', completely ignoring the tense of everything else...)
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on August 20, 2011, 06:57:16 pm
Lol...

I find past tense much easier than present tense, since I always write my stories in past tense. I suppose present tense makes just as much sense, but we do need to come to a decision, it is irksome to see a "story" written without consistency of tense and person.

One other thing: try to keep the OOC talk in this topic, but if you must say something OOC in the game thread, use ((double parenthesis)). I should've brought up the problems in Irie's post here insted of editing the post, but whatever...

Also, I'll be keeping to a outside point of view in my posts for now, in order to preserve the mystery of Nicolaos' mind and past, but rest assured, eventually I'll get inside his head as well.

Profile submission!

Name: Fiona Geileis am Brina

Gender: Female

Age: 23

Race
: Human(of the lands of Tylwythau Treftadaeth Etifedd)

Appearance:
Short, with dusty brown hair kept tied into braids and blue-grey eyes. A harness to bear her gear, a quiver of arrows upon her back, and a battle skirt complete an outfit usually supplemented by a tunic for the cold. While possessing shoes, she prefers to go barefoot when temperatures don’t leave her freezing.

Personality:
Short-tempered and volatile, Fiona is quick to take offense, but just as quick to cool off. Like an archer’s arrow, she is very direct and to the point. You want a diplomat, then she is not your girl. Though raised along the coast where weather often takes a cooler turn, she absolutely hates being cold and will often wear a tunic in addition to her battle harness and cloak.

Special Abilities
:
Growing up in a tribal proper, Fiona learned martial skills from a young age. Though not the best or strongest warrior, she is an excellent archer and skirmisher, and a decent tactician.  Painted symbols of the patron war god of her homeland mark her skin alongside clan tattoos. The blessings bestowed by the holy paint increase strength, speed, and endurance, providing magical armor for a short period of time.

Items of Interest:
A black steel short sword of a length more like a long dagger etched with carvings of dolphins and clan markings on the cross guard and base of the blade. A warm yellow short bow etched with similar tribal markings - worn with age, but well taken care of- is her favorite weapon.

Woad Paint, a special paint mixture steeped in legend and religious lore.  She rarely uses it as she does not fight on the front lines. By drawing the paint in holy symbols on her skin, she draws upon divine blessing to give her “armor” in close combat and enhance her abilities.

Heavy cloak for cold weather, paired with a thigh-length green tunic because she REALLY dislikes being cold.

A small bone talisman bracelet on her left wrist.

History:
I was born in the lands of Tylwythau Treftadaeth Etifedd, to the tribe of Brina, to the line of Geileis, to the given name of Fiona. My people were of the coast, and thus we sailed the straits, knowing the sea like a beloved. My father’s eldest child and only girl, I learned the arts of combat and the hunt, supplementing my family’s diet of fish with wild game.

It was a quiet life, interspersed as it was with the raids of other clans and outlanders. One such raid left my brothers dead and my father crippled, his warrior spirit broken. It was then that I took up the bow against other men and learned the meaning of battle. I then joined in raids against other clans, working as a ship hand and scout, acting both for revenge and to restore my father’s honor. There was little loot to be won, but it was enough for my family’s comfort.

The years passed and eventually, my ship carried the warband of Aidan Donovan am Delian. When the storm cast us from the sea, I thought it an ill omen until I dashed my head upon the rocks and thought no more. I awoke on the shore shivering with cold, and took a cloak from one of the dead. With little choice, I follow Aidan’s leadership until I meet my fate.

I enjoyed it alright.

Expanding the RP a little, since there are so many of us and rounds take time. A couple of threads where you can spend time between your turns. :P

Also, the turn order was defined by the first round as such:
Nicolaos
Darwin
Fiona
Harold
Aidan
Ishman
Acan
Cathair
Setsuna&Maria
Nex
Jimmy
Lissa
Estia

I'll link the turn order to the first post, and edit it if something happens to change the turn order.

I feel a moderate history lesson needs mentioned.

Nicholas said stuff about a back door and how a well designed fortress has one.  This refers to a secret passage and tunne that goes from the inside of the fortress to a ways out.  The primary purpose of this is two fold, to smuggle supplies in, as well as to send out elite skirmisher crews to raid the enemy.  In case of larger armies who surround, and have good area patrols, these tactical points become less useful.  It can be dangerous to launch raids if the army may find the door, and the ability to ambush is mainly used to hit the enemy during lulls in their attendance, striking hard when they are at there blindest.

This means for an army this large and organized, such ports are normally there but unused, often times guarded as a liability or even collapsed at points.  However, it's a back door built for fun lovers like us :D

trouble is, such entrances are always well defended, and designed so that a few men can hold them with ease if they ARE discovered, and in many cases designed to be closed off if it does happen, so we'd have to be fast :P

For those of you unaware, (and because I have yet to make my post), unless you know about it, you can't find it. The passage is hidden with magic. Such passageway was made because when the fortress was built, the land was in a distrust situation. The commanding officer (at the time) didn't have much faith in the castle holding out a siege war (He didn't have much faith), so he built a secret passage way that leads out.

My guess is that the passage way leads to a river or somewhere where he thinks he has a safe passage out of this place. By hiding in the river and traveling with it, one might be safe. Even if there are patrols, you can easily hide by diving in the river. There are many kinds of magic as well as alchemy recipes that allows the user to breath underwater during a short duration.

However, if the passageway is hidden with magic, then it could be tricky to open it. I think using Acan to open such passageway (if it's hidden with magic) is the way to go. Since Acan is skilled in disrupting magic, he could theoretically disrupt without the mages noticing.

Again, those are just some idead I have :)

Since Acan, you have yet to post yours, you could suggest the idea of it being protected by magic and that you should be able to disrupt it or something.

My comment was to the people who obviously didn't understand what Nicholas had referenced to about an old back door from when the place was built.  Never said it wasn't gonna be a tricky choice, just that the plan wasn't to have powder keg catapults hit the walls :P

As far as magic, my characters a warrior specialized in group enhancement Ki, so I'll leave that to you.  The second priest I have acquired who will hopefully make her profile soon probably isn't much of a magic weaver either, so let's hope Acan can do it.

As for the ordered turns, am I now expected to post so soon after I made a post (ie is it my turn again)? I really can't think of anything to write just yet, and if it's my turn, I don't want to hold up the RP. I'm really not that great at "assigned turns" type of play. Not even when it comes to board games.  ;D
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on August 22, 2011, 06:57:04 am
Thanks for explaining that, Soul. I kind of thought it was obvious, so it never occured to me to explain what I meant by "back door".

One more thing to mention about the passage is that it takes advantage of some natural caverns inside the hills. I've got a nice pic I intend to use if we go that way. ;D

Shion, your next turn comes in the next round after Darwin. It's Acan's turn now. My brother was already asleep when Listo posted his turn, and now he's in school, so it's going to take a while longer before he can post.

Puddle, when roleplaying, you don't put words in the mouth of another player's character. Unless the post is written cooperatively. If Cathair's player is fine with the post, I'm fine with it, but in the future, only do this if you've planned it with the other character's player... and do mention it in ((OOC tags)) at the beginning of the post, so I don't have to wonder about it.

Nice plan, BTW. The first actually viable one so far, apart from the back door one.

xD.

I wrote that in a hurry. I was annotating 'Isaac's Storm' while doing this. And I made sure to make it as if it was how Cathair would act. Yelling at me... etc.

Thanks for the praise :3

@tiger
Just out of curiosity do you mind if i have jimmy possibly throw some snide remarks Cathair's way in gaelic? It would make sense for an assassin to be able to speak bits of different languages to blend in and it would kind of match with out characters' relationship :)

sure, it would certainly surprise the hell out of Caithair, and wrong foot him :P

I thought of it by accident at work today. Was serving some Japanese people at work and accidentally put the wrong type of fruit in and heard them talking about the price in Japanese so i thanked them for telling me and surprised the hell out of them :)

Dalradia is a pretty isolated place, though, I don't know if it makes any sense for Jimmy to know their language.

The ki text is halfway done, I'll hopefully be able to complete it tomorrow.

Post by: Zerpo on August 23, 2011, 03:04:15 pm
Fair point but then again assassin's are always full of surprises. I could possibly add to Jimmy's history that he took a mission over there for one of their warlords and picked up a bit of the language. Ill add it into my post for now but can always remove it if needed  :)

Hmm, I would like some pointers from you Krozam about my latest post. I feel like I'm pushing the story forward myself which I find unfair seeing how you are the GM and not me :p

Also, my character is NOT tsundere but I couldn't resist putting that line in the double brackets ;) Seeing how you all are out there to trick me you bastards -_-
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC

It should be noted that a number of merchants do run regular trades to Dalradia.  They spread rumors it's an excessively risky trip, with my people being infamous(Wrongly :P) among those in the know for raiding caravans and picking them clean.  However, merchants go there to trade armor and weapons and buy fine gold jewelry(Religious craft, right draco?) to sell back home.  Likely quoting danger to triple the true value of both :P

This means while not a stream of it, there is travel and activity, as well as trade of ideas and language most likely.  So, picking it up in a western area wouldn't be unlikely even if he had never ventured there.  I doubt it would of been of particular much use though, but it wouldn't be unheard of for our languages to trickle out with a few teachers.

Just to clarify for any needed references.

@TheThing But it's so FUN! xD

Should it be noted that the history in your profiles is not the defenite history. You can always add to it as long as it doesn't contradict your already written history.
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Soulbourne on August 24, 2011, 01:42:09 am
According to the original post, the histories can be outright lies, they're just the tale that gets told as a generic if asked.   Was tempted to do geneology style name to that, but that seemed a bit too boring >.>
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on August 24, 2011, 02:04:30 am
Yes, the history part need not be true necessarily. But if it isn't, I should know it as the GM. And adding stuff is of course fine.

The Thing, I find nothing wrong with your post, except maybe including lines that were said after your turn. I'll let that pass, but let's not make it a habit, or things can become very confusing.

Almost done with the second round, I should get writing my next post...

Actually, I said those lines in according with them beforehand. I asked for example Nyan-chan if he would like to participate in the teasing and from there we coordinated the conversation.

Soul's taking his time... It's been over 24 hours, so Septe, go ahead and post. Soul will post when he's ready.

In other news, I'm having some trouble with the ki text, specifically inventing a wide enough variety of abilities... but it's advancing.

Character Sheet
Name: Morghandy Sloane am Albion

Gender: Female

Age: 25

Race: Human(of the lands of Tylwythau Treftadaeth Etifedd)

Appearance:(see picture below)

Personality: Has the cold temper that is similar to the weather of her home land, quiet and tends to keep to herself most of the time. Sees that fighting about what she sees as minor stuff is useless so many people consider her as arrogant.

Special Abilities: As the priestess of the God of war, she possesses his powers in addition to a medium level in using her own ki in battle. skilled in using her staff that has a crooked head and is used as an ax. The runes painted on her shoulders, arms and chest with the tribe's sacred painting work as a powerful shield in close combat, activated by the use of her inner ki.

Items of Interest: She holds a staff with a crooked head that can be used as an ax. The tattoos on her body work as a powerful armor she summons while fighting.

History: She was raised as a boy, being the only daughter of the tribe's priest. He trained her to be in his place after his death and so it was. This was combined with her martial training like any of the youth in her tribe.

After passing the tests and proved that she is a capable fighter, her father called her and gave her the staff he always hold. The staff of the war god and told her that from this day forth, it was her duty to be the tribe's priestess.

Years passed and her father died, leaving her alone in the world. Not that she really cared for that. Her time was spent in wars and raids aboard ships and one day, she was on the same ship with Aidan Donovan am Delian and Fiona Geileis am Brina, the ship crashed and she hit her head on the rocks. Waking up after few hours to find herself along with the former two as the only survivors. She had decided to stay with them as long as she is needed, or till they find a way to return home.

There's no way a 25-year-old can be a master-level ki-user, unless you're a friggin' prodigy, started training at, like, 3 years old, and dedicated your life to it, like Ishman. Also, I'd like a clarification on what you mean with "Several runes are painted on her skin with the sacred painting to help her get the most benefit from her ki." Assisting the use of ki with magic is possible, I suppose, but you need to have a more or less clear idea of the mechanism. Also, you might want to consider giving up on ki and focusing on magic instead, as it's possible to replicate with magic most of the things that you can achieve with ki. And that's without the exertion on your body that the use of ki causes.

Also, any chance you and Shion could bold the name, race, age etc. for easier reading?

Otherwise the character is fine. Welcome aboard.

Tiger, thanks for the offer. Though more than bouncing ideas off someone, I need someone to give me ideas.

As Soul explained it to me, the sacred paints our people use are somewhat magical in nature. When activated, they provide protective shielding over our skin like invisible armor, and greatly enhance our physical abilities for a brief period of time. So it's kind of like a berserker rage, except we're aware of what we're doing.
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on August 27, 2011, 05:43:31 pm
Yes, I'm aware of that mechanism, but hers appears to be different, as it's got something to do with ki.

Oh yeah, I forgot it was supposed to be activated with ki. I'll need to rethink about that detail with Soul, since that makes the armor useless for those warriors who can't control their ki. For now, the character is approved. Welcome to the game, post whenever you feel like it, I'll add you to the turn order then. Just have your character act like she's been in the group since the beginning.

As you can see, she's talking about how it looks dark. From the outside. As she was waiting at/near the entrance.

"She checks through her bag, seeing nothing to light the way as the group would walk through the underground passage. Her mind wanders as they all prepare for the trek."

Future tense is future speak.

I saw a dream about The Wings of Hall... only in that dream the Biker mice from Mars (http://epguides.com/BikerMicefromMars/cast.jpg) were a part of our band. XD We were infiltrating another castle, much smaller than Beil. Interestingly, the castle's lord was its dragon-possessed former head cook. XD Also, he and many of his men had a separate camp outside the castle. The Biker mice found them first, but one of them got caught spying, so the other two rushed in to save him. I'm not sure how it all ends, because I woke up when the rest of the band came.

No, I've not watched Biker Mice recently. Nor have I thought much about the RP. I have absolutely no idea why I saw such a dream. XD

I'll be starting a new round in a few days. I already have the post almost written, just needs some polishing. Soul has yet to post, that fact somehow eluded my attention, and right now he's busy IRL for the next couple of days, so I'll wait until he posts (hopefully within 3 days). Halo promised to try and post soon. I don't know what's up with semiramiese, I'll ask about that when I get the chance. Hopefully this slump will be over soon and we can get back to normal schedule, where at least one player posts each day.

Here's the ki-text I was working on - not complete, but I ran out of ideas. Figured I should post it before our first battle, ready or not. May be edited later, especially the levels of the higher-level abilities are still tentative.

Quote
Ki

Ki is a form of energy constantly flowing in (presumably) all living bodies, human or otherwise. It is a large part of one's life energy, and one cannot normally live long without enough ki, or with the ki flow somehow blocked. If your ki-center (located somewhere between the sternum and navel) is damaged, it will cause various health problems and can be fatal. With training, ki can be controlled and harnessed for use in battle. However, this training is a process that demands patience and time.

The theoretical part of the training includes lessons in regular anatomy, ki paths (the pathways that ki flows in your body) and a number of mental exercises. The mental side of practical part includes meditation, putting those mental exercises into practise, and learning to feel your ki flow (greatly eases control). The physical side of it includes learning to control your body, various muscles you'd normally not be able to control at will, and of course actually using ki in mock battles and various physical exercises. In many cases most of the learning happens through learning some kind of a martial art. The most skilled ki-users in the world can be found in monasteries where martial arts and meditation are daily practises.

All of this takes years, especially if you learn beyond the basic control. I'll list some ki-abilities and give them each a level, which represents how advanced they are generally understood to be. There are no skill paths, learning one ability doesn't close any doors, and neither do the levels mean that you can't jump to a lvl 4 ability right after learning the basic lvl 1 abilities. Few ki-masters ever learn all of the known abilities, and just because you've learned one lvl 2 ability doesn't mean that it won't take you a year or more to learn another lvl 2 ability. As for how long these abilities take to master, I'd say that on average, lvl 1-3 abilities each take a year and a half, lvl 4-6 take 2½ years, lvl 7-8 take 4 years, beyond that it might be 6-10 years for each. You may learn to use the ability passably in half of the time, these times indicate how long it usually takes to fully master the ability. Of course, the more time you dedicate to learning and the more talented you are, the faster you learn. Most ki-users choose to focus on few abilities instead of dabbling in everything, although both ways have their advantages. In practise the line is hazy, but as a guideline I'd say that one is considered a master-level ki-user after mastering at least seven abilities, one of them a lvl 7 or higher - so, that usually means 15-18 years of intensive training.

I've named the abilities, but I'm not going to translate the names. Each name has two words, and the second word sort of divides the abilities to five groups. Here are the key words to each group:
Dou = flow
En = focus
Kata = strong release
Chuu = soft release
Yuu = channel

Lvl 1:
- Teikan Dou: Accelerating your ki-flow, improves your reflexes and endurance.

Lvl 2:
- Ganshuu En: Infusing your muscles with ki, improves your strength, and hardens your flesh somewhat.
- Yok Dou: Accelerating ki-flow locally, enabling - among other things - the sharpening of sight and other senses.

Lvl 3:
- Fuku En: Directing ki into a wounded bodypart and holding it there, reduces/stops bleeding and accelerates healing.
- Jun Kata: Focusing ki into your palms and releasing it in short bursts at the right moment for blocking purposes.

Lvl 4:
- Sou Kata: Gathering ki to your hands or feet and releasing it explosively, enables very powerful strikes and leaps. With good control, this can also be done in a soft way, a palm strike can throw someone back strongly but without causing much direct damage.
- Seisen Chuu: Directing ki through your hands into another living being and controlling it to some extent: ki-healing, mostly.

Lvl 5:
- Attou Kata: Short-range (but ranged nontheless) ki-blasts. Usually not terribly damaging, but convenient for throwing people around.
- Nyou Yuu: Channeling ki through a non-living object, for example a weapon. The higher your skill-level, the more control you have over the channeled ki.
- Eian Chuu: Controlling another's ki-flow through touch (but not very quickly), to some extent. Allows you to put someone to sleep, to mess up their ki paths, to make their own ki heal them etc.
- Zai Dou: Clearing your ki-paths, the ability to undo most damage done to your ki-flow. The worse the damage, the higher level of skill is required to undo it.

Lvl 6:
- Ryutou Chuu: Releasing ki all around your body in a controlled manner, enables most aura abilities. The effect of the aura depends on the ki flow pattern. They stimulate the ki-flow, infuse the muscles or affect mentally the people around you. Some auras are considered higher level abilities.
- Gai Kata: Gathering ki in your hand and releasing it through a passing physical touch in various flow patterns: enables stunning, killing and various other kinds of touches. Some of the techniques are considered higher-level, for example damaging someone's ki-paths and ki-center without killing them.
- Han Kata: Sharp, powerful ki-blasts through your hands or feet, you can literally punch a hole in somebody, or break a wall.
- Shokan Dou: Through refined control of the ki-flows in your brain it's possible to gain several mental advantages, such as a high resistance to pain.

Lvl 7:
- Juu Yuu: Releasing concentrated, powerful but controlled ki, allows you to control your opponents' movements to some extent, for example throwing them around without ever physically touching them.
- Tenyuu Kata: Disrupting ki-flows in the air, allows breaking auras and other applications of ki that spread ki outside the body, without expending much of your own ki. It's possible to achieve the same on a lower level, but only by overwhelming the ki-flow with your own ki, which is usually very consuming.
- Hibi Yuu: Releasing a substantial amount of ki and restraining it close to your skin, it's possible to gain a fairly effective but consuming ki-armor. On a higher level the ki can be kept in constant movement, improving the armor's effectiveness considerably. Less ki is needed for this improved version.
- Seki Dou: Opening your ki-center, releasing your ki-reserves in a rush. Gives you an incredibly powerful ki-flow for a while, but releasing much of this ki is naturally consuming, plus the strong ki-flow may damage your ki-paths, and worst of all, if you use this for an extended amount of time or lose control even for a moment, your ki-center is likely to be damaged. It's a last resort thing, it can take away your ability to use ki for battle or even be fatal, but it can also save your life in a fight against a superior enemy.

Lvl 8:
- Kuuka En: Forming ki-concentrations that don't break immediately after leaving the control of the user, allows throwing explosive balls of ki and some other applications.
- Kyou Yuu: Releasing highly concentrated ki in controlled patterns: you can stomp your foot and cause the earth all around you to crack and convulse, or strike a boulder and have it break more or less cleanly into two halves.

Lvl 9:
- Roku En: Forming solid "objects" from ki and keeping it in control for lengthy amounts of time, for example making a blade out of ki.
- Jisatsu Yuu: Absorbing uncontrolled or badly controlled ki, allows you to absorb ki from someone who doesn't have full control of his own ki flow, or from some applications of ki which spread it outside the body (such as an aura). Also allows you to absorb back your own ki in many cases where you release it outside your body.

Lvl 10:
- Tai Kata: Releasing ki quickly and controlledly from almost any part of your body, allowing you to block strikes from any direction with short ki-bursts that don't consume much ki. Less effective and more limited versions of this can be achieved on lower levels, but this level of control is the highest anyone has ever achieved.

If you need examples of how some of the abilities work, just ask, I can provide them.

A few clarifications. (http://forums.hologfx.com/index.php?topic=256.msg6533#msg6533)

And yes, it's
Morghandy Sloane am Albion aka semiramiese

Looks like semiramiese won't be joining us just yet. I'm just waiting for Soul to post (hopefully today), since somehow his turn avoided my attention until a while ago.

Also, I edited the ki-text already, increased the requirements to become a master-level ki-user.

Wait, so I'd be a master since learning Ki control was essential to keeping myself and someone else alive?

**Nods**

Yeah, I consider myself Master. :3

Setsuna is a bit of a special case. I imagine his ki-control is master-level, since he struggles daily with abnormally strong ki-flow, but he probably doesn't fill the requirements in numbers of techniques mastered. His highest-level technique is probably lvl 5, "Channeling ki through a non-living object, for example a weapon." but he probably has an exceedingly good control of this technique, also aided by his special blade. He'd also be really good with the lvl 4 technique "Directing ki through your hands into another living being and controlling it to some extent: ki-healing, mostly." since it's an application of this technique that he used for years to feed ki to Xia.

Sound good?

Think I should come up with names for each of these techniques? ???

each level has their own abilities from what i understand. It would be nice with some names for the abilities tho ^^ but nice post about the ki Krozam :D
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on October 25, 2011, 01:12:45 pm
Alright, they have names now. The words were mostly taken from my kanji dictionary, the chinese readings, but I didn't pay any attention to their meanings, so they don't really have any meaningful translations (well, they do in the language of this fantasy world, but I can't be bothered to invent them). The second word of each name sort of defines the type of the ability, and I've provided "key words" for each type, to help you understand the basis of the division.

If you want, the ki-users among you can now list their known and mastered abilities in their character bios.

Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on October 25, 2011, 03:23:52 pm
A few things I'd like to stress and clarify, in case my wording in the text isn't clear enough:
- Ki-users don't gain levels, they gain abilities. The abilities are ranked, but in theory you can learn them at any order. In practise, it's exceedingly rare that any higher level abilities are learned before gaining a good foundation by mastering a few low-level abilities.
- The times I mentioned that one usually has to spend are per ability, not per level. If one wanted to master all four lvl 5 abilities, it'd take around 10 years, not 2 and half. And that's intensive training, unless you're an exceptional genius.
- Learning an ability and mastering one are two very different things. The times I mentioned are for mastering abilities, but they're also for focused traning. You can learn to use an ability in half the time (of intensive training), but your grasp of the ability will be shaky: the ability will be weak and unfocused compared to if you'd mastered it, and it can fail you at a critical moment. Or you can master an ability spending twice the time in years, but less time each day, leaving you plenty of time for other things.

Understand that ki is not easy. Compared to magic, it's difficult, in addition to being draining on the body. It's a poor replacement for natural magical abilities - or god-given magic - it's not even meant to be equal to magic as far as game balance is concerned. But, it can be learned by anybody, even those not lucky enough to be born with magic, without having to serve a god in exchange. It's a power entirely your own, not borrowed from the nature or a god. For many ki-users, it's a thing of great pride.

Edit: One more thing I just realized I forgot to mention: Ki-abilities that work within the body aren't terribly consuming, they mainly just stress the body, instead of consuming ki. Abilities that expel ki from the body are much more consuming, but they generally aren't as stressful to the body. Both tire you out, but in a different way. Losing ki is the more dangerous one and usually recovers slower. (Setsuna is an exception to this rule as well, his ki recovers much faster than that of a normal human.)

hmmm then I'd reckon Cathair'd probably just have Teikan Dou and Yok Dou, since he's certainly not a master at Ki
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Shion on October 25, 2011, 07:19:38 pm
I'm thinking the woad paint in Soul's character and mine....and don't we have another from our culture as well? Anyway, I think the woad paint is supposed to have a similar effect to

Teikan Dou: Accelerating your ki-flow, improves your reflexes and endurance.
and
Ganshuu En: Infusing your muscles with ki, improves your strength, and hardens your flesh somewhat.

Except that the paint's effect hardens the skin to an armor-like quality, yes? Now, my character hasn't learned to use ki (yet), and I believe Soul stated that the woad was activated by ki. But if it's paint blessed by our war god, wouldn't it be more along the lines of holy magic? If Soul could clarify this, that would be great.
I'd like to know what my girl can and cannot do, but if she can't use the specials, I guess she'll just have to rely on distracting her enemies with her nakedness while she shoots them in the face. >:D
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on October 25, 2011, 07:41:09 pm
The warpaint is magic, it's got nothing to do with ki, except for its secondary ability, which is activated by a primitive form of Teikan Dou. If I recall correctly, its primary abilities are constantly on, powered by magic from your god. The power is stored in the paint when it's made and blessed by your priests. The secondary ability, which releases all the magic in a short rush of power, is activated by accelerating your ki-flow. Naturally, it's available only to those who have achieved a certain level of control over their ki and are able to at least shortly accelerate their ki-flow.

I'm a special case :3

Setsuna Ando-- I'll add this to my character profile.

Sou Kata: Simply learned over the years.

Zai Dou: A side effect of learning to move his Ki between himself and Xia. Allowed himself to expel Ki when Xia was 'full'.

Seisen Chuu: Kept Xia alive. Kept himself alive.

Eein Chuu: Look up one line.

Teikan Dou+: Done unconsciously due to his dangerously high amount of Ki, which was constantly moving - Reason for the plus.

Kyou Yuu: In the process of learning. Really, he only uses it when he wants to. He's learning after all.

Nyou Yuu: Nyou Yuu

EDIT: Sorry, there were just so many! I chose mostly the Yuu abilities thanks to the fact that he has to master channeling.

I see your point with Jiatsu Yuu and, as I'm not in the mood to fix it, I'm taking it off.

I also want to point out something. Is it possible that there are connections of sorts between the types? Say, Dou users can learn Yuu much easier than, say, a Chuu user?

And about his condition: I just put it on their thinking it was cool. Now I have to work something out to fit with the Ki thing... Hrm... I'll have to elaborate on your Ki - Center and Ki - Flow idea to make this work. Give me some time please :3
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Krozam on October 26, 2011, 02:28:24 am
Explain to me, why Jisatsu Yuu? He's the one with excess ki, why would he need to learn the ability to absorb ki?

I'm not sure if Zai Dou is the ability you're looking for that purpose... although I'm not strongly opposed to Setsuna having learned the ability. I think it's more likely that his ki-flow is simply so strong that his ki-paths are more resilient to damage than usually. Well, to the kind of damage that Zai Dou is meant to repair, the kind of damage that hinders the flow. On the other hand, they're more prone to the kind of "burn out" damage that Seki Dou can cause.

Seisen and Eian Chuu are obvious, Setsuna must have them. No problem with the Teikan Dou either.

Kyou Yuu is a bit high level ability to have learned in just two years, especially without a master teacher. If you must have a destructive ability, how about Sou Kata instead?

Also, you forgot Nyou Yuu. It's obvious from your character description that he's learned it, probably even mastered it.

Edit: Also, one thing about your character's special condition: I think it's caused by his ki-center not working properly and not controlling his ki properly. Because he's been that way since birth, his body has had time to adapt to the condition... but if he were to learn Seki Dou, he wouldn't gain as much benefit as a normal person, because his ki-center doesn't store much ki, it already keeps most of it in circulation.

Edit2: Forgot to mention one thing - check the earlier clarification post (http://forums.hologfx.com/index.php?topic=256.msg6533#msg6533).

Based off Jimmy's training he would be around level 2 or 3 but would of also be proficient with Sou Kata and semi proficient with the softer way as well. Sou Kata and the improved reflexes/senses would come in pretty handy for an assassin :) Healing abilities wouldnt really be useful to an assassin so he wouldnt know those.  Will add this into my bio. Also glad we will be getting back on track soon, looking forward to how we actually manage to complete our mission

It's a trap! Somebody save my character! :o But be careful, others near him are in danger as well. This time, I'm leaving it up to you whether your character survives without a scratch or not, I won't be using my GM'y powers to determine the results for each character.

I poked Soul daily, but he's being lazy and still hasn't posted, so I figured I can't wait anymore.

Septe, sorry for godmodding your character a bit, it was necessary.

At this point, I don't know who is actively checking the forum and who isn't, so just post when you're ready, we'll make that the new turn order. I don't think that'll cause any harm at this point.

Oh dear... I'll apologize quickly... I encountered the story thread through a chat post from The Thing, and read through the story as it sat, and liked the way things were playing out without looking for additional threads... So have posted to the story without realizing there was as much structure as there is...

I just had an idea for this 'character', and without knowledge of the process posted the opening for 'it' in the story without asking to be a part of it... If it's in the way, or completely undesired, delete the post and I'll just watch things play out... if it's liked, and I should continue, let me know.

Again, I'm sorry for barging in without making sure it would be acceptable... (T_T)

PM me if you have any questions, or secrets that you don't want the other players to know. Let's leave your post there for now, I can delete it later if it doesn't work out.

Just a heads up, we'll move on to the next round soon. I'm still trying to get a few people post, but I've already given up on Septe. I'll dump his character as soon as an opportunity presents itself. It seems we'll get a kind of a stone golem in place of the miner (once we convince Asuka Jr.'s character to join us somehow). We're currently working on the details of his character.

Edit: Septe quit, I'm controlling his character until I get an opportunity to kill it off - in an epic way, by his request. :P

She called Maria up too, but Lissa had shrugged off the bolt and was ready to continue.

Once again, try to avoid these. Hollow's last post ends when Lissa gets hit, so this is technically controlling another player's character. Unless you agreed on this beforehand (in which case, please put an OOC note about it in double parenthesis at the end of the post), this shouldn't happen.

Right. New round. I'm sorry it took this long again. I'll be controlling Aidan as well, until I Soul can no longer stand my constant poking and will post just to make it stop. Though my controlling will be minimal, as you can see - they'll just tag along unless someone talks to them or a battle starts.

We have two new characters incoming, by Asuka Jr. and Chihaya-chan. They'll post their characters when they're ready. Asuka's character will be a sort of a guardian golem in the tunnels we're currently travelling, and Chihaya's character will probably start from the Fortress, as an enemy.

New turn order in the first post (I realized the link thing was unnecessary and stupid, better keep it in the first post). Also here:
Nicolaos (+Harold&Aidan) (Krozam)
Lissa (Hollow Nyan-chan)
Cathair (tigershark13)
Nex (TheThing)
Jimmy (Zerpo)
Setsuna&Maria (InfinityStream)
Luna (Chihaya-chan)
Darwin (Irie Naoki)
Ishman (Listomar)
Fiona (Shion)
Estia (SpringHalo)
Acan (SootShade)

Added player names to the turn list.
Title: Re: [RPG] The Wings of Hall OOC
Post by: Fear-chan on December 09, 2011, 02:18:07 pm
Name: Luna Crimsonair
Gender: Female
Age: 20
Race: Half human – half demon
Appearance: Essentially the image but amber eyes, small-average height, has many scars on her back for being tortured for committing crimes she had not commit during her youth.

Personality: Uncomfortable of her heritage, feels other half-breeds by so-called fantastic creatures are born as she was, flys into a berserker rage when confronted by demons/spirits/undead. She can come off quite harsh or distant but only because she fears her own blood and wants it to be simple for others to bring themselves to end her life if she loses it and attacks randomly although deep down she wouldn’t mind trying to get closer to anyone but her fears prevent her from trying...
Will go out of her way to help children has a weakness for those who are outcasts or orphans in particular as she knows what life they can expect, will never devise a strategy where an innocent is harmed in anyway although if someone is truly a bastard well they may not be so lucky even if she won’t let them die. Will plan or attempt a rescue for a comrade but if successful will openly state she didn’t do it for them as an individual but for the group as a whole even though that may not be the case.

Special Abilities: *placing in spoiler as I couldn't write it out briefly >.<
(click to show/hide)

Items of Interest: Her sword, the sword is a reminder of her father and something she is unsure whether to accept as a gift or burden but it does aid her as it was forged from her father a demon of dark affinity but embeded in it are jewels crafted by her mother and enchanted. The enchant permits her to channel fire magic through the blade thanks to the jewels and the blade will only accept someone of dark affinity to wield it.
She also keeps a dagger as a backup for tricky situations.

History: Let me see... I was raised alone by my mother as I never saw my father but he was probably a useless maggot although mother called him a deity it didn’t stop villagers from blaming me for every small thing... Getting beaten or whipped for crimes you never committed is such a great feeling is it not...

So upon turning 10 I trained in swordsmanship using mere tree branches or broken discarded weapons since my own weapon was too heavy... I don’t care if the blade I use now is my father’s I can use it and that is all that matters... not like I care who or what he may have been...

Upon turning 14 I could finally lift that heavy cursed weapon... After I turned 15 my mother had passed away and the villagers became much worse so I left and eventually got noticed by people for various reasons... I guess that is how I got to be where I am now...
