Title: Your favorite Anime Music Videos
Post by: Hanover Fist on July 18, 2011, 05:51:07 pm
I've been a fan of AMVs for years, and like some people have favorite seiyuu's I have favorite AMV editors. While there is a lot of eye cancer out on the web, there are also some incredibly well put-together videos. Like people's tastes in music, the "best" AMVs also depend on your preferences.

What are some of your favorite AMVs?

Here are three of mine:
Ileia's The Cyrus Virus (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PApjB9iBzUM) (Summer Wars = Miley Cyrus - Party in the USA) is hilarious - the best in my eyes for funny AMVs.
Aggressor's De:Light (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rwnoP5ZllY) (Shikabane Hime = Blue Stahli - The Pure and the Tainted) has amazing action and synchronization.
Nostromo's Auriga (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4KqbZ3iyVI) (Various = DJ Spoke - Watch Them Fall Down) is an excellent atmospheric piece, if light on story.

This might have been better in the music thread lol. But it could be both, kinda like Anime OPs.

Yeah, I was debating that myself. However, the justification I'll use is that the anime/video part of a given filesize is much larger than the space needed for the music. So I put it in anime.  :D

Yay for the embedding addition. Thank you Akashic!
Now for today's submission:

Aggressor's Code: Ecchi takes Nogizaka Haruka's Secret and adds a hilarious Code Geass spin to it.

I love Auriga, and Code: Ecchi is pretty hilarious.

This one is pretty damn amazing, makes me want to watch this Princess Tutu anime.

Krozam, that Princess Tutu video is excellent, also great at drawing you in to want to watch the anime.

When it comes to Minami-ke, Kostoprav's Clarissa has to be my fave. It succeeded in making me curious enough to watch the show. (Minami-ke = Mindless Self Indulgence - Clarissa)

Ooh, that's a good one! It reminds me of Aggressor's Cross Point - telling an original story twisted out of the Index/Railgun saga. (Index, Railgun & more = Шепот Ливня - Дистанция) Even though the song is in Russian, the story comes across just fine.

That video wouldn't play back properly for me past half way. It was good up to that point though.

I think I saw that one before. Good, but it was better without the YT stutters. ;)

That's lame that the YT version of Cross Point was corrupt.
Here's a link to a ddl on animemusicvideos.org if you're curious enough to see the rest.

Oh yes, that was great work there melding anime and Sin City. It reminds me of Ian Fleming's Property of a Lady (http://vidding.ru/Video/Contests/AMVNewsAO2009/AMVNews.Alt.Opening.2009-Le.Chiffre-Ian.Flemings.Property.of.a.Lady.mp4), an AMV intro to a virtual James Bond film. (Property of a Lady (various) = Muse - Feeling Good))

Edit: ...and the similarity was only heightened by Muse doing the music in both videos. :)

Whenever I think of Evangelion (especially with Rammstein), this AMV comes to mind. In 1999 (a distant age when most AMVs were made with two VCRs) it was a technical marvel made on Windows 98. Despite its age I think it still remains one of the best AMVs of all time with beautiful synch, timing and story.

Next up - made ten years later - my favorite Clannad AMV: Kireblue's Tears are from the heart (Clannad = Rob Thomas - Her Diamonds)

Looks kinda interesting. Gives me hope that maybe OP doesn't suck so much once I get a little further. I've watched 53 episodes, I was able to do that because someone told me it'll get a helluva lot better, and because it does generally improve with each new arc. Occasionally it also has some brilliant scenes, though unfortunately always out of battle, the battles are so goddamn horrible I've never seen anything like it, not even in Yu Yu Hakusho. Except for one, the Zoro vs. Hawk Eye battle, that was pretty decent. It was hilariously anti-climatic to watch a brilliant build-up in that Nami-centered arc, only to have it conclude with a series of dragged out battles that effectively embody everything that's bad about shounen battles. When I continue watching some day, I'll probably skip most of the battles, unless and until they get decent.

It gets way better when you get further into it... the first half (or til the Water Seven arch - i don't remember the exact episode number), the arch with all those "Animal" fruiteaters, you've watched in the AMV, untill that arch, it seems pretty unserious, afterwards it gets more and more serious, it still has those serious moments, (the fight with arlong in the nami arch is an example, or overall the way Luffy wants to help Nami and the village)

Many things happens afterwards, which you also got a little taste of in the AMV:
(click to show/hide)

my favorite fight from OP is: Ace VS. Blackbeard, awesome one, you'll be able to find many videos on youtube with it.

and yeah, especially in the start, there are some boring battles (ehmmm the usopp arch)
it gets better, but there are some very long fights later on too (especially Water 7 Fights)
Title: Re: Your favorite Anime Music Videos

Eh, Usopp's intro arc has a relatively okay main battle, since they didn't drag it on too much and captain Kuro is a pretty awesome villain. Since then the battles have gotten progressively worse (save the one exception), Sanji's battle in the Arlong arc being the worst of them all.

Honestly, though, I'm not cure which is worse, the character designs or the battles. Some characters are akay, such as Zoro, Sanji and Nami, but some, like Usopp and Buggy, make me want to close my eyes and forget ever having seen them. -.-' Luffy, too, is very unimpressive for a protagonist, but at least I don't get the urge to facepalm every time he appears on the screen.

Gotta admit, though, some of the post-timeskip designs are pretty cool.

This is by far one of the best AMVs I've seen. It's for the anime Koi Kaze and it manages to capture the entire scope of the anime in just under 5 minutes in an excellent presentation:

Hagaren Viper made this great Soul Eater AMV for Halloween a couple years back. Once again, it's the right time of year to post it. The creepy and precise Marylin Manson cover of the Nightmare Before Christmas song is beautifully timed and matched to the video clips. Enjoy  >:D

One other thing with the AMV above: Hagaren Viper also released a version using the original Nightmare Before Christmas song. I like the Manson cover better in the AMV, but from what I could see he didn't have to edit the video at all, just swapped audio tracks. That made me even more impressed by Manson's cover - to get the timing of the song that precise.

Here's a sendspace link to the Original Song Version (http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/download.php?v=172517&d=71820&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sendspace.com%2Ffile%2Fmq090r) if you're curious. I couldn't find a copy of it on YouTube.

I'm a ways through the Ef visual novel I happily found the other day (thanks Seiryuu) and I hit the Chihiro section. This excellent AMV kept flashing back into memory until I had to stop playing the VN just to watch it a few times. I thought I'd share: Koopiskeva created Paper Image using the Ef-Memories anime with Sara Bareilles - Gravity and it's an amazingly powerful piece, focused on the Renji and Chihiro story arc.

When it comes to Hellsing, Ileia's Zomboleo: Odorikuruu Strikes Back is my recent favorite: It's a tribute to a much older video that won awards for best dance video. I find it hilarious and awesome that the violence and gore of Hellsing was synched beautifully to a cheesy dance tune.

Next up - made ten years later - my favorite Clannad AMV: Kireblue's Tears are from the heart (Clannad = Rob Thomas - Her Diamonds)

Easily, without a shadow of a doubt one of my favorite amvs of all time. ohey and I actually have the top comment on the video from over 2years ago...4thumbs up hecks yea! Kireblue did such an amazing job on that video =3

But lets see...as for my favorites....I have a bunch but its usually just music I like that is added to shows I like so nothing really groundbreaking. But 2 that stand out are by the user Chiikaboom (Actually all her videos are really awesome and I suggest you check her out on youtube channel)

The first is called Static. Spoiler Warning, If you havent watched The Disappearance Of Suzumiya Haruhi but are planning to, you might wanna pass.
(click to show/hide)

The 2nd is Fluffy kittens & Rainbows...How does that saying go...Dont judge an amv by its title? or something like that...

Oh yeah, I've watched a few Chiikaboom AMVs before - good stuff! I hadn't seen those two yet and I'm glad you posted them. I really like Static. That's some very smooth editing and good choices for music and video. Then I had to laugh at the discontinuity between content and title on Fluffy Kittens and Rainbows - an excellent response to the quote at the beginning (and some common attitudes on the org). ;)

It might have been in the old Doki forum that someone brought up Silver Moon/Dark Moon Studios - another great editor - that sadly no longer makes AMVs. Your post of Static above reminded me of her She's Just Oblivious video:

[Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya = Skye Sweetnam - Sharada]

Title: Favorite AMVs
Post by: Hanover Fist on July 15, 2013, 10:43:06 pm
I've accumulated a number of AMVs over the last year or so. Here are my favorites:

Ileia returns with another wonderfully synched action video of the new Evangelion movies. The outro is hilarious!
RadioAkshun (Evangelion rebuilds) = Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
(click to show/hide)

A very cute recap of the Usagi Drop anime with great editing.
Ivy Bridge (Usagi Drop) = Rob Thomas - Little Wonders
(click to show/hide)

This one focuses on the Hiro, Miyako and Kei triangle in Ef. I always laugh to the lyric synch at 0:25.
Slave (Ef-A Tale of Memories) = Elize - Automatic
(click to show/hide)

Using video from The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Genius Party Beyond and original animation, this is an amazing wordless tale.
Paper Heart (Various) = James Newton Howard - Baby Monitor, Hand of Fate
(click to show/hide)

An original bittersweet story crossing Houtarou and Mio. It beautifully blends clips from dozens of shows, edited so smoothly that it could all be from one show.
Our Tapes (Hyouka x K-ON!) = Hurts - Devotion
(click to show/hide)

A shiny and explosive action video with lots of video sources.
Demigods (Various) = Blue Stahli - ULTRAnumb
(click to show/hide)

Finally, a sweet little Ano Hana AMV.
Hallucination (Ano Hana) = Trading Yesterday - Love Song Requiem
(click to show/hide)

Ooh! That reminds me, the AkrossCon2012 videos should all be available now. :D ... *starts downloading*
*edits* Two more for you now.

First place with six total awards went to the editor Umika, one of the co-creators of Our Tapes (Hyouka x K-ON!) above. Here's her award-winning AMV where she takes Houtarou and Chitanda in a very different direction.
Sincerity (Hyouka and others) = Halou - Today
(click to show/hide)

The AMV that got the AKROSS award was inspired by Our Tapes, but this one is Houtarou x Erio.
Petal (Hyouka x Denpa Onna) = Ludovico Einaudi - Primavera
(click to show/hide)

Both of these have amazing bittersweet original stories.
OK, I'll stop now. :D

Heh, I figured the mention of Erio would spark your interest. :D Apparently Petal also satisfied the editor's long time goal to make a sparkly blue AMV.

If you have time for one more, I suggest Sincerity, which takes Hyouka in a completely different direction.

I think it's the contrast that makes it a strong story. In an inverse way it's like that video where The Shining is recut into a trailer for a happy romantic comedy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmkVWuP_sO0) (instead of suspense/horror).

And as long as I'm here, Kristyrat did an excellent action AMV all from the fight scenes in B.R.S. It's shiny!
