Title: Light Novels
Post by: ryuu_zer0 on July 19, 2011, 04:19:54 pm
I thought this was a notable exception from our discussion boards, so I made a general thread. Light novels are always forgotten ;_;

I'll start off by listing a few of my favourites:
1. Haruhi series
2. Toradora
3. Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu

To Aru Majitsu no Index is another really popular one.  I haven't got around to reading it yet, though.

So, what other light novels have you read and enjoyed?

Toradora and Haruhi are the two that I recommend to new LN readers.  Toradora has been fully translated. All but the last 2 books of Haruhi (one of which came out earlier this year in Japan) have been translated as well, but you won't find it on baka-tsuki because it has been licensed. A quick google search will fix that though.

I haven't read that many light novels, but I'm very interested in them and there are many untranslated that I wish to read some day (e.g. Ookami-san and Daimaou). What I have read so far are the first 2 volumes of Kaze no Stigma (they stopped translating it :( ) and a few chapters of Shounen Onmyouji starting from where the anime left (it's getting translated very slowly). There are a few that already have some translations that I intend to read, such as Seikai no Senki and Ghost Hunt. And I do believe there are some Twelve Kingdoms translations around as well (starting from where the anime left, that is), which I really should read, because the anime is my favourite of all time. Though 12 Kingdoms might not count as a "light" novel series...

To put it simply, I'm mostly interested in light novels that continue from where their anime adaptations stop.

I own all of the Haruhi novels that have been printed in America, so novels 1-5. Great series of course. xD

Bakemonogatari is a series I personally love.
Spice and Wolf is really good too. Holo is hawt~ (I mean the character...)
Index is an okay story... well... the pictures are awesome. xD

I only read light novels that haven't had anime adaptations yet because I AM THAT HIP.

Wait, haganai is being animated this fall. That will reduce my hip factor and up my elitist factor because I'll whine about all the anime fans and how the novels are so much better! Damn!
