I do see what you mean about lack of subtitle support :/

Only thing that came close was my Xbox 360 + Flash Drive (iirc, Lucky Star displayed subtitles).

I still have had no success with this :/, my reciever doesn't play the video files at all (it can see them though).

In the past, I just used ffdshow, but that would present a transcode error. I tried CCCP this time, and didn't get an error, just nothing ever appeared.

After that attempt, I decided to use my 360 and TVersity. Video did stream to it, subtitles didn't (not that I really expected them to).

It's interesting how many people hate CoD in this forum lol. I'm pretty neutral towards it, but man, lol.

It's not that I particularly "hate" CoD, I just think it's heavily overrated lol

Also, for another good game, check out Vindictus. It's a F2P MMORPG Hack N Slash game. I heard recently however, it can only be played in NA (however, you might be able to tunnel or proxy your way past that, idk). An EU version is in the works, and was presented at gamescon 2011 though

I am not sure what you mean. You can get your own .com address; you just have to register it somewhere and redirect it to your website's server.

Yea I know I can do this, however I should of added I have yet to find a "free" way of doing this :/

The general discussion seemed lacking... Lol

So how bout some of those fun video games everyone loves to play? I guess this would be a broad topic then, anything from Mario to COD to Minecraft to Final Fantasy. Every platform, every genre.

CoD isn't a game... THIS however is a game :p

As for some games I play, I play osu!, Warcraft III and SC2, Global Agenda, Hellgate: Global

Not sure if this would be helpful (or work) but what about TVersity?

If it's of any help or anything, I host my own website (I use a DynDNS address, and redirect it to my own computer).

I haven't looked into this subject much, but I would love to be able to just be able to use my own .com address, and just redirect it to my IP (most things I see allow you to get a .com address but the files are hosted on THEIR server)

I agree with Krozam. You need a structured approach to learning the language. If you cannot go to a class, find a textbook. Watching anime helps with pronunciation, but if you plan to use a japanese OS, youre going to have to work hard on kanji and grammar.

Hmm, I'm probably not nearly the best at identifying characters, but with Windows 7, it all looked like Katakana to me

I looked into this in the past, tried it out, and failed. If I recall correctly, the issue was that TVersity couldn't transcode over to the DirecTV receiver, which if I understand right, could be fixed with ffdshow or something.

I probably should look into this a bit more, but does anyone have any experience with this?

General Discussions / Any recommendations for learning Japanese?
« on: August 30, 2011, 09:10:30 am »
I would love to learn Japanese, specifically for watching Anime or reading Manga, but also being able to use an Operating System in Japanese.

Right now, I use a variety of methods:

http://www.realkana.com/ (for learning Hiragana and Katakana)
http://www.hesjapanese.com/ (for learning stroke order of Hiragana and Katakana characters)
Rosetta Stone (for words and etc)
Anime (not sure if helps or not, but maybe hearing Japanese will help me learn :p)

Anyone else have any tips that might be helpful?
