Any chance of including this as a hidden in game translation? Ever since this was posted after the TL announcement, I always associated 'Tomoyo After' as 'Doki's Project'.

IDK, I just figure since you're doing all the work, you should have some tribute to yourself or Doki inside the game (while not interfering with the gameplay itself, of course). Thanks again for working hard on the TL!
EDIT (April, 2013): Oh, if I only knew what was to come, lol~~
Quick question: Will this have the extra ending where Tomoya does not die, or is it only the original game where he does?
Quick question: Will this have the extra ending where Tomoya does not die, or is it only the original game where he does?
In the original ending it happens
but as you know there's multiple endings in any VN.
Hello there, I just have a quick question about the routes. I finished a route last night but
it ended with Tomoyo and Tomoya returning from Tomo's mother's village, a few days pass, and that's it. The game returned to the title screen... No ending, no CG viewer, nothing... was that the bad end or something? QQ
I got to an ending last night. So powerful. :fuko:
Seriously though, cried like a baby. I must be really masochistic to keep coming back to Key when they do this EVERY TIME, but... but... Q_Q
I think I accidentally didn't read a couple of important lines right at the end because I was too busy looking for tissues. I also haven't run into D&T yet, so I guess I should keep going. Either it appears from the second playthrough onwards, or I've been avoiding it like a champ. Also, I want a successful ending... I mean, if Tomoya in AS accumulated such a humongous karmic reward, I'd think Tomoyo should have an even bigger one. ;_;
In the ending I got, Tomoya didn't really die it seems. I think he ended up with brain damage or such, or so I deduce from the wheelchair (in which he seemed to have grey hair) and rehab images. I accidentally heard of an ending where he DOES die, though (blame TVTropes). So if there's such a sad ending, and this bittersweet one I got, there must be a happy one. Right? Riiiiiiiight? ;_;
Yeah, I don't think I'm too coherent right now. My english always kind of slips when I'm emotional. \o/
I'd seriously bake you guys a cake and send it, if you weren't so far away. I just can't thank you enough for doing what looks to me like a damn fine job with this game.

You've said pretty much what I wanted to come here to say.
Though I can't make up if I'm sad, mad or happy about the ending. Tomoyo deserves a happy end, and not a bittersweet end like the one we got. :/ Does ME change the ending to a more happy ending? Because I'd love an actual happy end. Unless it's typical key style and the true happy end comes after a second playthrough with the RPG, wich would make me look silly, but oh well.
I can't thank you guys enough for translating this VN. I've come to doki when I played clannad, and found out you guys were gonna do tomoyo after story. I've stuck around since then and started to like this place a lot. Even though it's mostly the cbox that I attend. Cheers!
Question, does the ME version just change the ending and text, or does it change the majority of the plot to?
well, it removes all the PLOT

I know those feelings, bro. I know them so much. \o/
Yeah, Tomoyo deserves better. Besides, when they say "less than half percent of success in the operation :V" one would expect one scenario where it's successful. It might not make much sense the way I'm phrasing it, but that's what I feel.
Still, since this is not really canon, I can imagine in my head another segment attached to the story, in which some misteriously unmentioned light orbs come and everyone is good and dandy.
So well, I'll keep reading after I've passed through my moment of fragility that always follows a Key work to see all there is to see of this. Also, will wait anxiously for ME. (http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-ohdear.png)
Welp i was going to talk about the ending here, but Danyo and Silly Helen pretty much said what i wanted to say.
Something else though:
I was kind of skeptical at first when they pulled the Amnesia card, but they actually made it very interesting and absolutely heartbreaking (as Key tends to do). My jaw was on the floor when Tomoyo said it had been going on for 3 years already.
Still very happy to have had the opportunity to play this though, at least i think i'm happy... i don't know, Key screwed around with emotions to much today. Anyway, again a huge thank you to everyone involved in the project!
In Original one Tomoya dies
In ME he still alive < Extra CG and Extra Ending :p

I'd say it would be best if you put the first phrase under spoiler tags. Y'know, newcomers wouldn't want such valuable info so visible. D:
YAY TOMOYA LIVES IN ME. WEHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! :fuko:
I'd rather have found that out on my own, but it DOES put me at ease.
I came the to ascertain what I understood from the ending, but first of all I would like to thank you for translating the game, but I can't find the words that will contain all the gratitude I feel after completing the game, but anyway <bows> Arigatou gozaimashita!!!
I have read the previous posts but I still don't want to believe it. I would like a simple yes/no answer to my question in the spoiler below.
Did Tomoya die in the game?
And here's the second question. Aside from the bad end and the ending mentioned in this thread, does the game have more routes? Or only the ME does bring an alternative ending?

Yes: Like the old joke goes, "The surgery was a success, but the patient died," except that Tomoya's final decline took some time after the surgery.
Question 2: No other routes (that I know of) and I've never played the ME version.
As I thought. For a moment I doubted my understanding of english, but I wasn't mistaken.
Now I'm kind of high, but not because of drugs. This story stirred my emotions so much, that I will think about it for the next few days and mixed feelings of sorrow, happiness, melancholy and anguish will fill my heart...
I know that's kind of emo, but I love these kind of stories ^^
First of all, thank you very much for this translation. I know I haven't been waiting as long as most people but it doesn't mean my gratitude is any lesser.
Secondly, I doubt it but I would still love to know but is this the english patch for the Memorial Edition or does it only cover the normal game? I am not too sure of how it works exactly so forgive my ignorance.
Finally, considering the endings
I absolutely loved the game. I was really sad when I saw Tomoya dying after all the trouble that they went through. The game served to reaffirm that Tomoyo is easily the best character of Clannad for what she did at the end. To be honest, I was quite depressed at the ending and that Tomoyo had to live such hardship even if she was able to overcome it. Having read the manga prior to playing the Visual Novel, I knew what to expect yet I couldn't refrain myself from feeling it. I loved the way the manga handled his death just like I loved how the Visual Novel did.
When I heard that the PS2 version and Memorial Edition had a happier ending where they live together, I was overjoyed and tried to see the ending in question. I couldn't find any even in Japanese. I am currently trying to download the Memorial Edition in hope that the patch will work.
As I went to bed yesterday, I started thinking about the ending and when I woke up this morning, I remembered what Tomoyo did with her computer. I remembered that she would be helping people online and that was proven also at the end. I also remembered that Tomoya was able to wish Nagisa back to life after helping multiple people. While by no mean official or anything, the way I interpreted the ending was that Tomoyo overcame Tomoya's loss and made out to help people on the Internet. Surely she would be able to gather enough happiness from those she helped to get enough light orbs to wish Tomoya back to life. At first, I though that the whole 3 years thing was absolutely unnecessary if Tomoya died in the end but now that I think about it after letting my emotions calm down a bit, I understand it was a vital experience for her as it made her a stronger person just like Tomoya became a stronger person after meeting her. I believe that my ending does not negate that strength she gained but instead made it so she finally gained the reward she deserved. Happiness.
Now that I finally finished both Nagisa/Ushio story and Tomoyo's. I can safely say that Tomoya becomes a better person in Tomoyo's and that they make a much better couple. Throughout the game, Tomoya is willing to sacrifice everything he has to make people happier around him. In the VN just like in the manga, before he dies, his only concern is not for himself but for the girl he loved as he is afraid of leaving her alone as he knows just how weak she can be.
Thanks for listening to me, now I'm off to try and find the Memorial Edition while crossing my fingers in hope that the English patch works.

No, my friend, the english patch will not work for ME. But fear not! It will come... well, it will come eventually. It has been said that it's the next thing they'll do after they return from their well deserved rest; work on the new scenes in the Memorial Edition.
Your comments on the end moved me. ;_;
Yeah, after a replay and a couple of days, I could appreciate it better too. As I said before, I completely agree in that Tomoyo has/will collect enough KarmaPoints™ to wish him back to life. I was absolutely overjoyed too, when I heard about the ME ending. :fuko:
My reaction to the three year thing was... pure shock. Really, it hit me like a sack of bricks. To think she had been supporting him all by herself in the last year, masking her sadness and desperation with a smile to try and make him remember. And then, he falling in love with her again and his determination to remember even if he might lose his life. Really, they deserve a happy end. ; 3;

After my post I've been searching about the Memorial Edition and ended up on a post saying they were playing on translating it. I was overjoyed of course. But thanks for clarifying that for me!
I also saw that they had released a Consumer Safe version for PS3 but I think the Memorial Edition is the same but I would love a confirmation for that as I might have to import it (200$ yikes!) and learn Japanese to play it.
I am now playing the whole Dungeons and Takafumi and it's pretty nice. Still very excited for the Memorial Edition but if Tomoyo waited 3 years for Tomoya, I can wait for the Memorial Edition!
To be honest, I never thought I would write that much XD I started writing and then next thing I know, it's already a couple of paragraphs. Oh well, when you are passionate about something, you suddenly have a lot to write about it. I've always been a sucker for romance and when I saw Tomoyo in Clannad, I immediately wanted more of her and ended up disappointed that Nagisa was the main romance even though it was to be expected from the start of the anime. My favorite episodes from the anime all had a thing in common; Tomoyo and my favorite was her OVA.
When I learned about the Visual Novel, I kept searching for it and finally found it after many days. Naturally, my first playthrough was with Tomoyo. Her route was even better than the anime as we clearly see the thoughts of Tomoya and how she changed him. Even though I had seen it multiple times, it broke my heart when Tomoya broke up with her even though I knew it was only because he loved her so much. I remember seeing someone bash Tomoya from the OVA because he seemed weaker than Nagisa's Tomoya but I can safely say that he matured so much from Tomoyo's influence.
Tomoyo was always my favorite character from Clannad. She looks so tough at first when you first see her beating a bunch of thugs yet as you start to get close to her you realize just how weak she can be. She can be manly at times yet be so feminine at other times. Her portrayal in the Tomoyo After manga show that duality even more. I loved the scene where she just jumps on Tomoya right after he got his accident and her chibi like face. It's so awesome and funny. Or these scenes in the VN whenever Takafumi interrupted them. She truly is awesome as a character.
The only thing I didn't really like in the VN was that if you try to find another way to make Tomo stay with her mother (on August the 12th when you talk to Kanoko in the scrapyard) you end up with the bad ending where it is implied the relation between Tomoyo and Tomoya becomes more physical than emotional. I could have understand had I chose to purse her body like on the 14th but that one chance kind of bugs me because I was still trying to find another way.
That's pretty much the only bad point I have with the Visual Novel, I loved everything else, the music was particularly poignant at times. I have many things I would have love to seen though such as Tomo, Tomoya and Tomoyo becoming a happy family after Tomo's mother dies but I'm pretty sure that her mother will live longer now that her daughter is with her. Her mother was given a worse role in the manga, when I played the VN I thought she had abandoned Tomo for no reason like in the manga but I was pretty shocked to learn she was sick and in Tomoya's place, I would have done the same thing even though it would have easily broke my heart to leave Tomo behind, even if it's for the best. Actually, I would have just loved an ending where Tomoya survives, they start a family and they grow old together like that couple Tomoya saw. I was pretty happy to see they married each other though and felt bad for Naoyuki who finally meets his son after 3 years only to see him die. That picture when Tomoyo and Tomoya are embraced naked during the night was so sweet though.
And I done it again o.O
For the other version, all I know is that the Memorial Edition has no H scenes and is 50% more longer. I have no idea if D&T is in it but to be honest, it's not that important to me. All I want is more Tomoyo.
Nah, the ME has D&T; I was talking about that ridiculously expensive port.
50% more :tomoyo:! Saves you from witnessing H-scenes that make you burst laughing from the awkwardness! Has a happy ending, which will save you the game's cost in tissues!
All in all, it's a 100% more enjoyable experience. Reserve it now, on the J-box!
Or whatever you use to buy these games. If only I was wealthier, I'd use it all the time. ;_;
There is no way i can express my gratitude to the entire Doki VN department in words, so i will just say this:
THANK YOU for that amazing experience that was Tomoyo: After Story. I will forever remember what i have just experienced.
But this. Oh lord. For the entire duration of the Tomoyo After: After, i had tears in my eyes, and towards the end the dam breached and i sat there crying like a kid for 10 minutes.
This is the most emotional experience i have ever had, and i would recommend it to anyone, anytime.
I wish you all the best of luck for any future VN subbing.
Took the words right out of my mouth. Although, the experience left me slightly jaded. Perhaps I was hoping for a different outcome because of Clannad, than what TA:IAWL offered. A part of me feels as if there was a degree of punishment exercised by Key and the VN team to Tomoyo fans out there with the way this one ended. I am unsure, as these mixed feelings are hard for me to grasp.
It is said that ME edition offers a happier ending, and that something extra can be gained from completing the D&T mini-game. I have yet to complete the latter so I cannot say with any certainty.
:tomoyo: :tomoyo: :tomoyo: :tomoyo: :tomoyo:
Sorry to break the melancholic atmosphere as I really appreciate the prowess of those spoiler tags, thanks for keeping those "a la bio-hazardous, top-secret" files awaaaaay from me! LoL. But anyways, I bumped here to humbly ask a noob question:
- How to resize (custom) window mode of TA:IAWL?
As everyone may have known, Tomoyo After’s default resolution is 4:3. But in my case (and others, I believe) the display was stretched in widescreen (eg. 16:9) when fullscreened.
I’ve tried the ’right-click-properties-compatibilities’ method to manually change the resolution but it didn’t help. What I am trying to achieve is to run the game under a larger 4:3 window mode resolution while my monitor’s settings are untouched.
Please, any suggestion, recommendation, how-to or whatnot are deeply appreciated.
* minnasan gomeiwaku suimasen, soshite arigato gozaimas!

With these guys, I am so amazingly grateful in this day and age to have played this game,
I'd previously listened to the song 'Harmony with Sorrow' before I even played the game and it sounded amazing, although it gave me a sad feeling for some reason. I played the entire game without once hearing the song, only the different version named 'Harmony' which didn't seem to be as sad in my opinion. Towards the end of the game once I heard this song play for the only time, I knew what had happened and I immediately felt heartbroken and burst out crying like a 5 year old child for the entire time that the epilogue was playing and Tomoyo was typing out her story on the keyboard. This game had such an impact on me and even though Clannad After Story had a huge impact on me, I wasn't bawling like a baby for anywhere near the duration that I cried for this game. I guess to sum it up, I'm grateful to both Doki and Key for making me experience this amazing story. The several years wait was more than worth it.
Cannot wait until you guys release the Memorial edition patch! <3
EDIT: GIMME DAT TOMOYO AFTER ANIME SERIES, one can always hope :(
Hello everyone, could someone please clarify and confirm this:
"the player must finish eight of the mini RPGs games called “Dungeons & Takafumis” which are available during certain scenarios as the player continues to play the game." (-from information section, http://doki.co/visual-novels/clannad-tomoyo-after/)
If you've finished D&T, click spoiler:
My understanding is that Dungeons & Takafumis does not end in just one playthrough and beating this mini RPG game eight times regardless of rank will unlock something. Is this theory right on the money?
First of all, I'd like to thank everyone at Doki for releasing this marvelous patch! (Yeah, I know I'm late, so shush. >: O I was busy finishing the VN!)
It was a joy to play through, and right now, I'm still working on playing Dungeons & Takafumis. It's an entertaining little game, and the story is hilarious. (On that same note, Kanako is a riot. I love her.)
One of my favorite things to do is to play through all of the "bad" endings.
In particular, the part where Tomoya fails to build the school was an interesting one. Hypothetically, if Tomoyo knew that Tomoya would die in the end, which path do you think she would choose? Would she rather have led a meaningful life after Tomoya's death, or would she have chosen to live every day with Tomo and Tomoya while losing the more emotional aspect of their relationship? Tomoyo After certainly gave me the opportunity to reflect on my own principles and the decisions I would have made were I in the characters' situations.
Does anyone know what happened to Tomo in the end? Did her mother end up passing away?
Oh, and also... I was incredibly surprised by the same ending I mentioned earlier, particularly during the parts where Tomoyo manipulated Tomoya using her body. That was extremely dark. o_________o; If you played through that ending, you know what I mean... However, I was happy that Tomoyo was able demonstrate her emotional strength during those 3 years of Tomoya's constant memory loss. That's one thing I know I would not be able to do... but who knows. The power of love can be amazing, as was proven in this story.
What were your thoughts?
Ugh, I stayed up until 3 AM achieving these feels.
My jaw literally hung open, and I stared at the dialogue for a minute when Tomoyo said she has been going through the same painful cycle of his memory loss for THREE YEARS. Telling the same story, going to the same places. Even Tomoya got tired of her asking about it at the end of the week, yet she did it every 10 days with a smile on her face.
Also, I finally playing after 100%ing the original Clannad and AS back in 2008 or so and reading the Tomoyo After manga around then (because Tomoyo was my favorite character), so I sort of knew what type of ending to expect. However, it does seem like he just has a speech and walking impediment, and he's starting to recover. I didn't get the impression that he dies, which would be too sad for Tomoyo :( All because of that damn rain in the village! So what makes people think he died?
