Visual Novels / Re: Your Favourite Visual Novel

My favourite translated VN is Snow Sakura. It's hilarious, and I actually got a little attached to the characters.

However, my very favourite is Fortune Arterial, which I read with the aid of translators. Just so you know, the original is a hundred times better than the anime, even if the anime is quite watchable. I literally fell in love with Erika. The second time in my life I got a crush on an imaginary character (if we exclude a dream I once had, lol). The skill of the writing shone through the horrible machine translations, and the mood was quite powerful.

Of course, if I were to judge based on the HCG's, I'd come up with completely different names and a lot more of them... :P

Anime / Re: Your Favourite Anime Seiyuu (Voice Actors)
« on: July 19, 2011, 03:17:27 am »
An impressive list, Akashic. It's nice to see other people who bother to spend time on their forum posts. :P

Let's see... For me there are two kinds of awesome seiyuu: those who do one awesome voice and those with impressive variety of voices. I'll start with the one voice people:

Wakamoto Norio
"When God speaks Japanese, He uses Norio Wakamoto's voice." - quigonkenny in the MangaFox forums
The King of male voice actors. There's no competition. Hellsing is where I first heard him, but his performances have impressed me in numerous anime: Demonbane, Princess Lover, Shounen Onmyouji, Tayutama etc.

Nakata Jouji
Another one familiar to me since my first anime, Hellsing. He's awesome also in Daimaou, Escaflowne, Nurarihyon no Mago etc.

Okiayu Ryoutaro
Another one with a cool deep voice. D.N.Angel is where I first noticed him, and later I've liked him in Bleach, Flame of Recca, FMA, Prince of Tennis etc.

Ono Daisuke
I know he's more famous for his role in Haruhi, but to me he'll always be the guy who voiced Kazuma in Kaze no Stigma so perfectly. I like him wherever he is, but other really good roles were in Umineko, Kuroshitsuji and Yakumo. Also, not a bad singer.

Inoue Kikuko
She has the most pleasant, motherly voice. Ah! My Goddess, Nadia, Onegai Teacher, Ranma ½ and Umineko saw some of her best roles.

Arai Satomi
She's freaking hilarious. She's most well known for her role in the To Arus, but for me her crowning role is as the narrator of Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi.

Itou Keitarou
I like his voice. It's as simple as that. He's good especially in Bleach and Demonbane.

Ishida Akira
A fantastic villain voice, for example in NuraMago. Also pretty good in Bleach, Shounen Onmyouji, Naruto and D.N.Angel.

Sugita Tomokazu
A fairly ordinary voice, but perfect for sarcasm and some other comedic uses. I especially like his performances in Haruhi, Umineko and Shuffle.

Shimizu Ai
Love her voice. Greatest roles in Onegai Twins and KoreZombie.

Tachiki Fumihiko
He's one of those voice actors with a very distinct voice. He's also one of those seiyuu you hear too rarely and usually in small roles. I know him from Nogizaka, Oreimo, MoonPhase, Bleach etc.

And then the ones with variety:

Oohara Sayaka
Perhaps my favourite female seiyuu. She's fucking awesome in Umineko, adorable in Toradora and great in Fairy Tail, Asura Cryin', xxxHolic etc.

Kugimiya Rie
People often mistake her as one of the single-voice actresses, but actually, she can do a lot more than her signature tsundere voice. See Fairy Tail, FMA and Umineko for examples.

Park Romi
She does a very impressive young man's voice, for example in FMA, Bleach and Detective Loki. However, she does an equally impressive woman's voice, for example in Naruto and Kuroshitsuji.

Fukuyama Jun
He's the one they always get to play the young male character who has two different voices, such as in NuraMago, Code Geass and Rental Magica. Often he also plays good one-voiced roles, such as in Kuroshitsuji, xxxHolic, Spice&Wolf and Ao no Exorcist.

Horie Yui
Quite often her voice is very ordinary and unrecognizable from among a million other voice actresses, but sometimes she shines. In my opinion her role as Maria in Umineko was the performance of her life. She's also a good singer.

Shinichirou Miki
He always plays such fun characters, for example in Bleach, Hatenkou Yuugi and Full Metal Panic. He's also an outstanding seiyuu and a pretty good singer.

Ookawa Tooru
Currently great in Sacred Seven. Also good in FMA, Tears to Tiara and Trinity Blood.

Nakahara Mai
Another one with a fairly ordinary voice, but some really good roles, such as in Amaenaideyo, Zakuro, Higurashi and Katanagatari. Also a great singer, I love her character songs in Zakuro.

There are a bunch of others I like, Fujimura Ayumi, Kitamura Eri, Itou Kanae, Irino Miyu, Satou Rina, Kamiya Hiroshi, Abe Atsushi, Noto Mamiko, Hanazawa Kana, Tamura Yukari, Touchi Hiroki, Nakai Kazuya, Nonaka Ai, Toyosaki Aki etc. But, this has already taken hours, so... only the very best got a proper introduction.

Anime / Re: Your Favourite Anime

Slowly getting back into action here... It's nice to see some activity here, even though I'm still pissed at the loss of all the old material. I was the top poster, you know! And there was some material I should've backed up, like the manga diary. -.-'

My top 5:
1. The Twelve Kingdoms. A imaginative and interesting fantasy world, beautiful art&animation, an epic story, philosophical depth, fantastic character development... The only thing missing is a romance.

2. Fullmetal Alchemist. The 2003 series. A superbly balanced blend of action, comedy, great characters, philosophical depth and political intrigue with a great plot.

3. Mushishi. There's truly profound beauty and wisdom in this anime. Slow-paced awesomeness.

4. Umineko no Naku Koro ni. The most powerful mood I've ever experienced in an anime. Also, a very intriguing plot, beautiful art&animation and great characters.

5. Kaze no Stigma. This is a difficult one, I could well name Toradora, Spice&Wolf, Great Teacher Onizuka, Master Keaton or Asura Cryin' instead. However, I chose Kaze no Stigma because it's simply the most entertaining anime I've ever watched. There's no other anime I've watched as many times. The production quality may be weak and the story simple, but Kazuma is easily up there in my top 5 coolest and most interesting characters, the musics and action are great and the whole thing is simply so perfectly up my alley that I can easily forgive the numerous weaknesses this anime has.
