Title: Tomoyo After
Post by: Tatsuya on July 11, 2011, 11:18:04 pm
(http://images.hologfx.com/Doki/Clannad/Tomoyo%20After.jpg)
Description

Tomoyo After's story revolves around Okazaki Tomoya and Sakagami Tomoyo. Tomoya has graduated from high school and is now employed as a garbage collector. He and Tomoyo are now seeing each other in a romantic relationship, though Tomoya lives alone in his apartment. One day it is discovered that Tomoyo has a younger half-sister named Mishima Tomo who had been living with her mother, but was recently abandoned. It is eventually decided that Tomo will live in Tomoya's apartment for the time being.

Beside the Adventure part that makes most of the game, Tomoyo After also has RPG elements. In order to complete the game entirely, the player must finish eight of the mini RPGs games called "Dungeons & Takafumis" which are available during certain scenarios as the player continues to play the game.

The current VN Doki is working on is Tomoyo after, can't say to much about it, just that we working hard, any questions feel free to ask  :o

Let me know when you need play-testers of the translation. I'll happily volunteer. :D

Any chance of including this as a hidden in game translation?  Ever since this was posted after the TL announcement, I always associated 'Tomoyo After' as 'Doki's Project'.

(click to show/hide)

IDK, I just figure since you're doing all the work, you should have some tribute to yourself or Doki inside the game (while not interfering with the gameplay itself, of course).    Thanks again for working hard on the TL!

EDIT (April, 2013): Oh, if I only knew what was to come, lol~~

This is one of the biggest things I've ever looked forward to (and not just from Doki) in terms of the anime world. Looking forward to the release, but take your time, I can wait XD.

That editor deserves a good ole pat on the back. Maybe the Doki Santa will bring us Tomoyo After as a Christmas gift to all the little girls and boys waiting anxiously :3. Either way, I'm pretty packed with school too, so I'm sure I won't notice the time that passes by before it's out XD.

We are planning to give you both the game, and an install patch that you can directly install in the folder you put the game in, the seens will appear in the folder, but it won't be text, just data for it to be send to the game, so shortly said, whole game install + patch install.

Ah okay, I'll just keep my ear to the ground! As far as questions, is there any plan to have a place where we could see overall completion of the project, like a sort of wiki-thing? I know some projects tend to have things like that.

The Doki main page would be the place to watch for the completed game: http://doki.hologfx.com/ (http://doki.hologfx.com/) - where all the other Doki releases are announced.

We have a wiki, you will never see it.

Reason? It's private for doki staff only, no one else.

Progress, hmm, yes, if you have been following it, you might have noticed some recruiting here and there, but yes, we are making some, as for how much.... I have no idea... stuff happens, all I have to say...

it's not done.

Progress, not much. Not only am I very busy, all the others are also. Much hasn't been made but we're trying.

Also yes, we will provide a full PC version download including our English patch when we finish it, as for the CG, I have no idea. There probably are some but look for those yourself, I really have no interest in it.

1st, please modify your post to put all questions in 1 post instead of making multi posts.

It's impossible to tell you when we are going to release a patch, as we stated before, it will be released when it's done, wich will take time, and people who have lives.
Also, yes it's possible to remove CG's but you'll have to do that yourself+ you need knowledge on how to.

No. If you're really that worried, only the BEGINNING litarly THE BEGINNING has some H in it, after that it's full story, unless you go into bad endings on purpose, they have some too.

I was just thinking that I could try to translate some parts if you need a translator. I cannot say that I'm fluent in Japanese yet, been living and studying here in Japan for 1 and half year and can read and speak more or less fluently but my vocabulary isn't the biggest. So if you want someone to give it a try just send me a mail ok?

Looks like about time I opened up the Doki Legion mail bin... What do we have here?

when will this be available?

Hi Clannad_92.  We will not release a timetable for the project's completion, as the effort required to complete Tomoyo After with exceptional quality is significant and time consuming. I don’t think there’s much debate that this is the most ambitious & time intensive project Doki has yet worked on. Rest assured, everyone’s patience will be rewarded when our complete patch is released.

Your offer is appreciated.  At this time, we are moving along with the project with an experienced team.  I would encourage you to talk to Holo, Ix, or Dys if you would like to help out as a TL at Doki.  We're always happy to accept help from members of our community.

any chance that this will work with ME?

Either you mean Windows Millennium Edition or you're talking about Tomoyo After Memorial Edition.  Since Windows Millennium is old and awful, you must be talking about the memorial edition.

The initial patch to be released will work only on the initial release of the game. In total three main PC versions of the game were released: the Original, CE, and Memorial versions. As the routes & structure of the CE and Memorial versions differ from that of the Original, a straight up overlap patch is not possible. However, if interest is great enough for a translation patch of the other versions of the game, it will be looked into.

Can't wait for completion ;D I lurv clannad

I'm quite the fan myself.   O0

Go Doki :)

I see your name and all I can think of is Nyan-Cat. Nat.. Nyat.. Natynyan nat.. Nyanat.. Nyan Cat!

Hey um random question about the game do the sexual scenes have voice acting? not that I really care but in games like Muv Luv and Kanon all of the scenes have voice acting but the sexual parts, and it really bugs me for no reason. thanks

Muv Luv (and Muv Luv Alt), along with the vast majority of voiced PC VNs do have voice acting during the H-scenes, complete with lots of moaning

On the other hand, Kanon (along with a few others such as Fate/Stay Night and Utawarerumono) don't have voices in the H-scenes simply because the voices weren't in the original PC version of the game, but rather came from a voice patch from a voiced PS2 version of the game.  For obvious reasons, these PS2 versions could not keep the H-scenes, thus those lines end up unvoiced and there is no voiced version with H-scenes.

Si nce it was originally an R+18 game im fairly certain that the h-scenes will have voice acting.

On another note, anyone know if Doki is building off of the partial patch that Baka-Tsuki made before they shut this project down?

In regards to translation, we did not feel that the released patch was of sufficient quality to be reused.  All scenes are being translated by members of the VN Staff.  In addition, all image edits have also been completed in-staff.

Hello guys and to the translation team,

I'm new in here. I came from Kureha One (http://www.vn-meido.com/k1/index.php/topic,1060.0.html) and helped the ppl there doing a tiny bit of S;G tweaking.
I have read the recruiting department blog and I understand that the team is currently working on the game.
When the translation is done and if I have spare time, I would like to offer my help as a tester for the game, Tomoyo After.
It would be an honor and pleasure for me to work with the team if I could be of any use as a beta-tester.
As of now, I'm taking a little breather from schooling/working and have my free time at hand. Also, I am eager to see this game in quality English, Doki trademark.

May good fortune be with all of you.

I think many of us that wish to support VisualArts/KEY had only one option, which was the memorial edition when we went to buy it.  Please consider creating a patch for the memorial edition as well.  Thanks.

Yes, but all seens aren't being translated by the VN staff as half of the seens have been done by Baka-tsuki and only needed TLC. The other half are actually being translated by members of the VN staff.
Just for the credits.

The Baka-tsuki peeps will get their credit, don't worry.  ;)  I revise my statement as follows: every scene has either been TLd or TLCd by Doki Staff members.  However, major revisions have been made to the Baka-Tsuki script to improve translation quality and overall flow.

NeWbY has been very influential in the changes that have been made and thereby deserves out heartfelt thanks for his substantial contributions.  Thank you!  ^_^

First of all I would like to start by saying thank you so much to Clannad Man, Pandasu, NeWby, Thaerin and anyone else I missed from the Doki team or anywhere else for doing this project and there hard work. Clannad was my first visual novel and I seem to have fell in love with the story head over heels.
while I am trying my best to wait patiently until the release I have a few questions that might help me and some fans be at ease. I tried my best to work through the 826 comments on the recruitment page to find answers to some of my questions but like I said 826 comments and I have finite of time.
I know that the project was dropped and given to Doki team april of last year, and that Holo started recruiting for the project then, I am wondering when did you and the rest of the team start working on it?
like many Fans I am fearing that the same thing at Baka might happened here in terms of the project being started, the fans wait years and in the end only have a partial patch. I have read some of your comments and I know that you love this story just some reassurance would be really nice. I also mean no offence to Baka, they did an amazing job with clannad, its just sad that tomoyo after got the short end of the stick.
I have read that the release date was classified but is the reason why the release date is classified classified as well? if not please share.
Finally if you need any help to make this release date any sooner I am your service, I have experience in java, C++ and matlab and while those skills were mostly used for engineering purposes I am sure I can be of some help.
Thank you again, I am looking forward to your response and godspeed.

Hey, I just got forum-promoted! w00t~!

Question, does the ME version just change the ending and text, or does it change the majority of the plot to?

Whenever there is a substantial text change, the plot changes as well.  Does it follow the same general line?  Yes, but because so much is added, playing it will almost be like going through a large DLC add-on for a game.  Memorial does change the plot to a certain extent.

...QQ..... NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~ ... GAH .. well that sucks... Is there an unlockable true route in TA like the AS for Clannad and Refrain from Little Busters?

Isn't part of the fun playing through to find out? ^^

Yeah, I don't think I'm too coherent right now. My english always kind of slips when I'm emotional. \o/

I'd seriously bake you guys a cake and send it, if you weren't so far away. I just can't thank you enough for doing what looks to me like a damn fine job with this game.

I can't thank you guys enough for translating this VN. I've come to doki when I played clannad, and found out you guys were gonna do tomoyo after story. I've stuck around since then and started to like this place a lot. Even though it's mostly the cbox that I attend. Cheers!

Something else though:

Still very happy to have had the opportunity to play this though, at least i think i'm happy... i don't know, Key screwed around with emotions to much today. Anyway, again a huge thank you to everyone involved in the project!

I came the to ascertain what I understood from the ending, but first of all I would like to thank you for translating the game, but I can't find the words that will contain all the gratitude I feel after completing the game, but anyway <bows> Arigatou gozaimashita!!!

I have read the previous posts but I still don't want to believe it. I would like a simple yes/no answer to my question in the spoiler below.

(click to show/hide)

And here's the second question. Aside from the bad end and the ending mentioned in this thread, does the game have more routes? Or only the ME does bring an alternative ending?

First of all, thank you very much for this translation. I know I haven't been waiting as long as most people but it doesn't mean my gratitude is any lesser.

Secondly, I doubt it but I would still love to know but is this the english patch for the Memorial Edition or does it only cover the normal game? I am not too sure of how it works exactly so forgive my ignorance.

Finally, considering the endings

(click to show/hide)

Thanks for listening to me, now I'm off to try and find the Memorial Edition while crossing my fingers in hope that the English patch works.

No, my friend, the english patch will not work for ME. But fear not! It will come... well, it will come eventually. It has been said that it's the next thing they'll do after they return from their well deserved rest; work on the new scenes in the Memorial Edition.

After my post I've been searching about the Memorial Edition and ended up on a post saying they were playing on translating it. I was overjoyed of course. But thanks for clarifying that for me!

I also saw that they had released a Consumer Safe version for PS3 but I think the Memorial Edition is the same  but I would love a confirmation for that as I might have to import it (200$ yikes!) and learn Japanese to play it.

For the other version, all I know is that the Memorial Edition has no H scenes and is 50% more longer. I have no idea if D&T is in it but to be honest, it's not that important to me. All I want is more Tomoyo.

Nah, the ME has D&T; I was talking about that ridiculously expensive port.

50% more :tomoyo:! Saves you from witnessing H-scenes that make you burst laughing from the awkwardness!

All in all, it's a 100% more enjoyable experience. Reserve it now, on the J-box!

Play normally until July 20 or so, then Kanako should prompt you to play Dungeons and Takafumis, which unlocks it in the title screen. If she does not prompt you, it's that you're still missing stuff, no idea if bad ends count or not. :'V

There is no way i can express my gratitude to the entire Doki VN department in words, so i will just say this:

THANK YOU for that amazing experience that was Tomoyo: After Story. I will forever remember what i have just experienced.

As a guy in my twenties i rarely cry. The only times i have cried for like the last 10 years has been when i have been watching or rewatching Clannad, and recently when my grandfather died.
But this. Oh lord. For the entire duration of the Tomoyo After: After, i had tears in my eyes, and towards the end the dam breached and i sat there crying like a kid for 10 minutes.
This is the most emotional experience i have ever had, and i would recommend it to anyone, anytime.

I wish you all the best of luck for any future VN subbing.

/Daller, a forever grateful Clannad lover

Took the words right out of my mouth. Although, the experience left me slightly jaded. Perhaps I was hoping for a different outcome because of Clannad, than what TA:IAWL offered. A part of me feels as if there was a degree of punishment exercised by Key and the VN team to Tomoyo fans out there with the way this one ended. I am unsure, as these mixed feelings are hard for me to grasp.

Sorry to break the melancholic atmosphere as I really appreciate the prowess of those spoiler tags, thanks for keeping those "a la bio-hazardous, top-secret" files awaaaaay from me! LoL. But anyways, I bumped here to humbly ask a noob question:

- How to resize (custom) window mode of TA:IAWL?

As everyone may have known, Tomoyo After’s default resolution is 4:3. But in my case (and others, I believe) the display was stretched in widescreen (eg. 16:9) when fullscreened.

I’ve tried the ’right-click-properties-compatibilities’ method to manually change the resolution but it didn’t help. What I am trying to achieve is to run the game under a larger 4:3 window mode resolution while my monitor’s settings are untouched.
Please, any suggestion, recommendation, how-to or whatnot are deeply appreciated.

There is a manga, though. It doesn't illustrate things too well and it is really short, but it shows things in a different perspective.

The thing I'm really, really looking forward to is the Memorial Edition. The fact that Tomoya is voiced and it has extra dialogue and stuff really... rustles my jimmies. Jiggles my giggles. Rambos my stallones.

I'm hoping to see more of Takafumi and Kanako, though. I feel like there was more to their story than what they showed us. :c

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone at Doki for releasing this marvelous patch! (Yeah, I know I'm late, so shush. >: O  I was busy finishing the VN!)

It was a joy to play through, and right now, I'm still working on playing Dungeons & Takafumis.  It's an entertaining little game, and the story is hilarious.  (On that same note, Kanako is a riot.  I love her.)

One of my favorite things to do is to play through all of the "bad" endings.

Please report errors in the "Tomoyo After Game Error Thread". Read through the topic btw, and the last few pages here: http://doki.co/2012/09/22/tomoyo-after-english-patch-v1/#comments  Chances are your problem has already been posted by someone else and answered before.

This patch is for the Standard/Regular Edition of Tomoyo After. It does not work on the Memorial Edition (which is superior). The patch for the Memorial Edition is being worked on however, and will be out later. As for where you can buy the game...The Memorial Edition is available a few places, but the Regular Edition is extremely hard to come by. Have a look at the thread I posted a link to above, in my response to Yokosuma. I believe the main places where you can get the game are listed there in the comments.

hey guys, I dont know if this has been mentioned anywhere, but i thought i'd share a small experience:

I'm playing TA on linux (Ubuntu specifically), using the RLVM engine.  In order for TA to load, it requires the font "msgothic.ttc" (MS Gothic) to be in the game directory.
I copied it from my Windows 7 computer.

now, MS Gothic is an ugly font.  So i recommend that you copy "ARIALUNI.TTF" (Arial Unicode) instead, and rename it "msgothic.ttc".  it works fine, and looks SO much better!

I've noticed that with repeated playing of Tomoyo After, that i'm seeing less and less scenes with the blue leaves/ivy around the text box.  what is the significance of this?

My first play had blue ivy until i got to Tomoyo After: After.  then the leaves vanished for that section.  Now I'm only seeing the leaves occasionally in the earlier sections.

I really noticed this when i had two Tomoyo After games running side by side (one running in RLVM and one in Wine - as i'm using linux).  the Wine window was a fresh install, the RLVM save had been played through a lot.  The fresh save file had the leaves, but the old didnt.
