Title: Tomoyo After Game Error Thread
Post by: rarely_upset on September 23, 2012, 05:39:01 pm
Report any errors in the functionality of the game (crashes, garbled text, broken saves, etc.) by posting like so:

Where the error occurred
Details on the error
Details on your system

Example:
Load screen
Can't load saves after save #6, both from the main menu and during gameplay.
Mac OS X 10.7.5, installed using the osxcmdinstall script.

July 7
Loading a save on the third line ("Hm? What?") on Tuesdays freezes the game.
Windows 7 Pro, American locale.

Please search to see if the same or similar problems have already been reported!
For problems with the game's script, please visit the Script Error Thread (http://forums.fansub.co/index.php?topic=823.0).

Hi.

Every time I play this game, the game crashes on July 2nd.  Right after they talk about loosing their memory.
I have looked around the forums and I can't find any help.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the patch and the game, but nothing seems to be working.  Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Edit:  Actually, it is right after they said it was a pleasant meal.

It has nothing to do with saving the game.  They say something about loosing memory, then the window goes black and says RealLive has stopped working.

I am running windows 7 Home premium.

I had a problem at Aug 14; RealLive crashed on me when Tomoyo spoke. I fixed it, though.

I have the game installed on a Windows XP, with perma japanese locale. Yeah, couldn't be bothered to change it back since I'm always installing visual novels.

Problem was my installation. My external hard disk (where the image was) was malfunctioning, and therefore didn't copy the files well. I got the game again and installed, then put my saves folder in it, and I had no more problems aside of the lack of tissues.

Aside from that and some japanese characters popping up, it has run really smoothly. :fuko:

Unfortunately, I had to delete Tomoyo after.  For some reason, it caused my computer to blue screen every hour.  I hope I can get it working on my other computer.  Thanks anyway.

Hello there. Well my problem seems to be this: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2ildg8n&s=6 and this: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=mj7rr5&s=6 ...
I don't know what is happening. I installed the game and patch to the directory required and nothing. Also, my game is not ME and my coumputor runs Japanese app-local
as you can see.  http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=ery5id&s=6
Thank you in advance.  :sena:

That happened to me when I tried to play Clannad a couple of years ago. I downloaded and installed this (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5555) though and then I could play with no problems. Since this seems to use the same engine... I'd assume this should work for you too.

Thank you, thank you so, so very much. It didn't work at first C++ 2010 but I got the idea to try installing 2008 and 2005 and it works.

I'm having a similar issue. The problem I'm having is that it goes back to the title screen after Tomoya and Tomoyo get back from
(click to show/hide)
I've tried reinstalling and I've tried installing previous versions of Visual C++. My 2010 version is newer than what another user posted to download. I have the executable set to run as admin. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium right now. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Edit: Never mind. I did a save just before the game went back to the title screen and it comes out as BAD END. That means I messed up somewhere.

EDIT: I tested with Japanese version and it does the same thing, so most likely this isn't relevant to anything, then. Sorry.

Transition after July 2nd, after Tomoya says something like "It was a firey dinner."

Playing on Windows 7. The screen transitions to black like normal but then locks up and displays the REALLIVE.EXE has crashed junk. Happens every time, have tried reinstalling as well.

I've had trouble with running the 1.3.5.4 version of reallive at all it just black screens and says reallive has stopped working and must shut down, when the baka-tsuki patch was available i had the same problem but replacing the tomoyo reallive with the LB version seemed to fix the issue, this solution no longer works with the new patch however. Game will run when i run with administrative privledges with the protect my computer option checked but will crash when attempting to load a save. I've tried installing in different folders, have all the C++ runtimes and have run fresh out of ideas. computer runs XP SP2 with system locale in japanese. Any help is appreciated.

Have TA installed where I replaced BTs partial patch and a new install of TA.  The menus of each are in Japanese, as are the typing segments.  Both have SEEN0702 separate from the SEEN folder, it is that way when I extract file with 7zip.  I've finished the VN except D&T which also is still Japanese.  3od
$_OUTDIR file was installed. Went back and opened and installed contents of $_OUTDIR and it looks good now.

If you try to "Skip" when you get to Dungeons and Takafumis, the game hangs.
I just clicked really fast until I got to the game...but pointless since T&D can be accessed from the home screen after you first save.

Today something weird happened with the game. You see, I was trying to access it from the shortcut to RealLive I have on my desktop, but the thing just wouldn't boot. I tried many times, and then went to the root folder and directly clicked on RealLive. Black screen.

Since that IS normal, as says the readme, I just kept trying until I got bored and tried opening the RealLive on the CD. It booted right away! But the game was in japanese, so... well, I closed it and went back to trying in the game folder in my hard drive. This time, it started at the first try, but I found that my reading progress had been lost. I mean, my saves were there, and D&T and the extras were there, but the skip button was grayed out on things I had seen already many times.

It isn't that annoying of a problem, really, since the CTRL key exists. Still, I thought I should post it here just to let you guys know.

the game worked the first time for me, after that, i would try to open it and there would just be a black screen. However, i discovered that deleting the file “save999.sav” in the SAVEDATA folder would let the game start up again. But everytime i want to play the game i have to go into the folder and re delete save999.sav, I’m sure this wasn’t intented so is there a way to fix it?

im running windows 7 sp1 if it helps

I'm guessing it is hanging when it's calling the opening video, for some reason.  Perhaps some codec filter/setup you have is messing with it.  You can try removing the opening video, and see if that helps, or tweak your codec/filter setup for .mpgs.

Hello Doki forums, I unfortunately have an issue with my Tomoyo IaWL game.

My OS is Windows XP, to make this problem less general.

The details go as follows: I can boot up and change the setting in the menu, and the menu theme plays fine. But whenever I try to start a new game (June 28th) I get an error message that looks like this:

RealLIVE error: FatalError: Could not find a suitable font.

What do?

Is the name of your game folder something unreadable/something strange? Or maybe in Japanese? Because that can sometimes cause that error to happen. Try renaming the game folder to something simple like "Tomoyo After" for example. If that's not it/doesn't work, make sure to do a clean install of the game, and then a clean install of the patch (after renaming the game folder).

Well, there shouldn't be any need for you to change your Locale to Japanese, since you're using Windows 7, but try doing that anyway. Also, make sure you're running the game with admin privileges. And you probably know this, but just in case: If your copy of TA is the Memorial Edition of the game, then it will not work with this patch. This patch is for the regular version of TA only, and it is not compatible with the ME of the game.

If none of that works, the only other thing I can think of is that you have a different version of Reallive or something, that doesn't work with our patch. Navigate to your reallive.exe on your computer, right click it, click "properties", and then "details", to check your version. It should be something like 1.3.5.4. Let me know how things turn out.

Yeah I have the exact same issue basically except, i have all of my visual C++ and what not fully updated and I don't get an error about the font. The font just doesn't appear. Just like this person above me, it works fine and everything's in English and I can mess with the settings, except when I click START and try a new game (June 28th, Monday), everything appears EXCEPT the dialogue and therefore music stops and then game crashes and RealLive doesn't respond. So I don't even get to see any text. I tried updating whatever I needed, but idk.. I'ma try reinstalling a few more times but it's disappointing.. I can't even start playing it yet lol.. Maybe I missed something helpful on the site? idk. x; Help would be appreciated lol.

Right, first things first: I know you probably already know this, but I have to mention it just in case: Make sure you're not using an old BakaTsuki patch together with the Doki one, as that won't work. Even if you think you aren't doing so, the copy of the game that you have, if downloaded from the internet, may very well have a BakaTsuki patch already installed. That is not the case if what you downloaded is not a folder but a DVD image file though of course.

Secondly, there might simply be something wrong with your copy of the game, or the RealLive.exe. So make sure the copy of the game you're using is a working one (check if others have used it successfully). If you've replaced your RealLive.exe at some point (I know there are people posting download versions of the game that tell you to replace the original RealLive.exe with a cracked one for example), then retreive the original one again. The correct version number for your RealLive.exe should be 1.3.5.4, so check that.

Finally, in your Windows control panel, and language settings, change your Windows locale to Japan, and the language for non-unicode programs to Japanese, even if you are using Windows 7, and not Windows XP (if you're using XP you can also alternatively use Applocale).

Try all of those things, and see if it helps. :-)

I have pretty much the same problem as rungear. loading the game runs smoothly with no problems. I can go in the menus just fine. But when I go to start a game the music plays and just as the first bits of text should appear the game crashes and I get a message saying reallive has stopped working. When i run the game normal without the patch everything works fine (apart from not being able to read Japanese).

I am running windows 7. I have set my settings to Japanese, have tried with the latest c++ and the 2005, and 2008. I have downloaded the different game clients from multiple sources each with the same result.

I am very confused as to why it does not work. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Ok, Shadow, a couple of things:
1. Can you check in your Windows Font folder, and see if you have the font called "MS UI Gothic" (not "MS Gothic" or "MS PGothic")? The file should have 3 Japanese characters on it. If you're missing it, that "might" be it. But if that's not it:
2. Are you able to grab the module that is causing the crash, and see if it is it reallive.exe or rlbabel.dll? If you could post the windows error report, what the information in it says, exactly, word for word, other than just "reallive has stopped working" (if there is any other info that is), then that would likely help us isolate the problem a bit more. Specifically, we need to know what the error code was and which module it was in. The error should have occured either in reallive.exe or rlbabel.dll.

Report Id: 32662158-3dbc-11e2-8c62-00269e8d3692

Aha. According to Delwack, this means that the faulting module that the error occurred in is not reallive.exe or rlbabel.dll, but MSVCR90.dll. I hate to say this, but that means it's a a segfault memory access crash, and that actually points to the visual c++ redistribution packages...The problem should be on the redistro/OS/standard libraries end. If you are absolutely 100% sure that you have downloaded all the latest visual c++ redistributables, then the only other thing I can think of is that it is a admin permissions issue. I believe Tomoyo After asks for admin permissions every time it runs, so you need to make sure that you are allowing admin permissions. If that's not it, then I'd suggest redownloading all the latest 2005 and 2008 (and maybe the 2010 ones, but I don't have those either...) visual c++ redistributables. Remember, you need to grab the right ones for your system. It's not just about you system being XP, Vista, or 7, there are different ones depending on whether your system is 32bit or 64bit as well. In the former case you'll need the x86 ones, while in the latter case you'll need the x64 ones. Don't try to install both either, as I think they'd conflict with each other.

But anyway, if that doesn't help, let me know. Polarem might have an idea if we ask him. ; )

I have windows vista 32-bit. When ever I reach the point where the opening would play I get an error.
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime library

R6016
-not enough space for thread data

I also have the game downloaded on a external hard drive and have tried to play the game on both Japanese and English local. I get the same error every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That is an error generated by the Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library (technical explanation in case you're interested: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/126709 ). I would suggest first updating your libraries and see if that solves the problem. The version you need depends on your system specs, but basically, x86 is for 32-bit systems (like yours), and x64 is for 64-bit systems. Personally I have the 2005 and 2008 ones installed, but not the 2010 one. I’m using Windows 7 64-bit. I believe that since you're using Vista, you'll need the ones that are marked "SP1", and not the ones that don't have "SP1" in them. Since I'm such a nice guy, and since I don't want you to download the wrong redistributables, here you go: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5638
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582
Saved you the trouble of looking them up. ;-) Let me know if that solves your problem or not.

Yeah that seemed to work. Thank you very much

Very seldom (once in a couple hours)there is a couple second freeze in the action while playing D&T.   It never happened on the first patch, though I played it through a few times.  Finished playthrough I started yesterday, 2 hrs no problem this time.  Usually play with ctrl depressed and it acts as if my finger slipped for a second. windows 7 x64.  First time through had problem several times.  Almost through again and only happened once?

Thanks, we'll look into it. Could you provide some details of your system specs as well? That would be very helpful.

System: Ubuntu 12.10 64bit, using RLVM to play.

Everything is fine for me except the D&T minigame.

1) its really slow.
2) no sprites show up on the checkerboard play area.
3) values like exp are always shown as 0 or 999, etc.
4) after starting a battle, i immediately get the cleared screen, and move to the next floor, without earning any exp or seeing any battle.

Is there any consistency as to when the freezes happen? How many times have you experienced D&T freezing in total, and how many hours have you played it (D&T only)? No-one else has reported this problem, so unless we are able to reproduce it somehow, looking into it and fixing it will be difficult...

Morlok8k, I'll need to get back to you after I've talked to swiss (the Linux patch expert in our team), but RLVM doesn't really work well with D&T I'm afraid. I'll get back to you with more details, and if there is any way to solve those problems that we know of, I'll be sure to tell you.

yeah, i found out its a known issue with RLVM, due to D&T being loaded as a windows .dll instead of Reallive bytecode.  (the same issue with the baseball minigame in Little Busters)

Right, so I just talked to swiss. He told me that the way the game works is the SEEN.TXT sends "op codes" (basically, a number that translates to an action) within the actual game. Now, Elliot Galaysher, the RLVM creator, decoded them for most of the game, but he didn't do the ones for D&T. We've contacted him, and he's kind of willing to help, and swiss could also do it, theoretically, if he spent some time figuring out how it works, but it's a LOT of work, so neither of them has the time needed to do it right now. So if we do work on trying to fix the problem in the future, it will be a while from now, I'm afraid.

swiss tells me that if he does work on it, it will be through RLVM's Git repository, so if anybody else wants to help and work on it (whether you know how Git works, or are thinking of learning), feel free to do so. RLVM is open source after all. Look here for details on how to use Git and GitHub: https://help.github.com/articles/fork-a-repo  And after that, look here for details on how to work specifically on RLVM's Git repository: http://www.elliotglaysher.org/rlvm/contributing.html

Finally, one more thing: You might ("might" being the key word here) be able to use WINE (http://www.winehq.org/) to run TA and D&T on Windows without problems...but if you do, be warned that the savefiles will not work.

Yes, i'm familiar with github.  I use it with developing Minecraft Land Generator (https://github.com/Morlok8k/MinecraftLandGenerator), and I'm also using it with my Clannad and Tomoyo After diagrams (https://github.com/Morlok8k/Clannad_VN_Flowcharts) I'm creating.

The only issue with contributing, is that I don't know C++, which RLVM is written in.  I know Visual Basic and Java...   I did learn some simple C many years ago, but never used it since.

I've started playing TA under wine.  So far it works, but I've only gotten to the first set of questions...  it will be a few days before i can make enough progress to actually play D&T.

Edit:  i'm currently playing with RLVM and wine at the same time.  its interesting to see the differences.  Wine is much faster, but RLVM looks nicer.

Well, if you're serious about contributing, and you really want to learn, there are a couple of tutorials available on how to use C++:

If i didn't have my own projects already, or didnt work a full time job, i'd jump at that.

Suffice to say, jumping into a project like that, with no real knowledge of the language, would make me feel kinda like a script-kiddie.  (though it is how i learned Java, and became the project leader of Minecraft Land Generator...)

The idea intrigues me though...  I might poke around the source a bit.

lol, yeah.  Hell, yesterday i celebrated the 20th anniversary of getting my first computer.  An Apple IIe, where to do anything, you had to program in BASIC.  I quickly learned BASIC at the age of 7.
Code: [Select]
10 PRINT "HELLO WORLD"
20 GOTO 10
ahh, memories...

Well, I did submit a pull request to rlvm to get the ball started on the Tomoyo After .dll issue...  but its got a long way to go before anything is functional.

It's probably been a month since the last time someone has posted a report here BUT I really need your help. I know in the past people had issues with the REALLIVE.exe not playing the opening video. That's happening to me right now. I uninstalled the game 5 months ago because of the same problem except for the fact that I DID NOT KNOW that it was a video opening problem. I've tried anything and ALMOST everything. Such as, replacing the video, changing it to be played by windows media player and getting CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack). Yes I am desperate because I realized I was an idiot for uninstalling the game months ago because of a video problem. I know people got past this issue somehow and I really need the answer. Please and thank you. :'(

EDIT#I tried playing the japanese version of the game and the video STILL didn't load. This should be some useful information.

The swiss I was talking about is one of our staff members, so yes, I was not talking about you. ;-) As for your opening video problem, I need to clarify one thing with you first. Are you aware that the opening video does not, and is not supposed to, play neither when you launch the game, nor when you you start a new game? Many people have thought there was something wrong with their game just because the opening video did not play when they launched the game or when they started playing, but that's not it. It's not supposed to. The video plays around 10-15 minutes into the game. So, you have to start a new game, and then play for a bit, and THEN the video will play, after a little while. ;-)

Oh. At first I was confused about what you said but I think you misunderstood me. Yes, the video plays after July 2nd, I believe. I think the final dialogue before the video was "It was a rather fiery dinner." After that dialogue, the screen fades into black and then it crashes. It has happened to me every time and I don't think I'll be able to continue if I don't get this fixed. Sorry about not being specific about where it hangs. Thank you.

Ah, you're talking about that bug that causes the game to crash when it tries to load the opening video. I thought you just meant you could play the game, but couldn't see the OP. :P

Well, that problem is a bit more complicated. It has to do with your video setup. Your codecs and filters and such. Most likely your vfw filter chain has been broken, because some of the codec packs you have installed on your system have been messing with it when they really shouldn't be. How it works is a little complicated, but, basically, a vfw filter chain determines what Windows passes stuff off to for decoding first, and like anything else, it must have a default value. You don't mention what operating system you are using (always include details on your system when posting errors, as per the guidelines posted on the first page of this error reporting thread), and I'm not sure how it is with Windows XP, but Windows 7 at least has a set of native filters to handle most stuff, using its own codecs for decoding several audio and video formats, and so using third party DirectShow filters instead of the native filters is not possible without making difficult changes to the Windows Registry. The problem is that some programs and players, which are able to use third party filters just fine on their own, try to very aggressively replace Windows' native filter set with their own, basically telling Windows "Let the program decide for itself which filterset to use!". This can sometimes break games, because the game is expecting the Windows filter set to handle the video/audio, and handle it in a certain way. This way the game doesn't have to actually think about it. If Windows tells a program to choose a filterset, but the program was never DESIGNED to choose a filterset to begin with, then bad things happen. LAV for example still has some issues where in certain situations it can crash when it is called by programs as the filterset.

As such, one last resort solution is to simply delete the opening video (or move it to somewhere outside of the game folder, so you can watch it manually outside of the game, using the media player of your choice). Filters can't mess up when they can't play. :-) You only said you've tried "replacing" the video, so I'm gonna assume you haven't tried deleting it. Then again, if you delete it, then you won't be able to see it when playing the game. Nothing huge of course, since you can play it manually with the player of your choice outside of the game, but there is a possible "proper" solution, if you're a little adventurous. You can download this tool: http://www.codecguide.com/windows7_preferred_filter_tweaker.htm , and then open up the prefered decoders, and make sure everything is set to either "microsoft" or "merit". Setting it to "microsoft" would probably be the best option to try out first, and then if that doesn't work, you can try "merit", though it's possible that that one may not work either. The idea is that setting the filterset to Windows, if it isn't set to it already, may fix the problem because now the game should say "Okay Windows, go handle your video thingy". It may not work, but it's worth a shot if you want, and if all else fails, you can always delete the OP video. Bear in mind though, that making these changes will affect everything else that uses your codecs as well, so use the program with caution. If it breaks everything, then you need to set things back to how they were before you made the changes.

A long response I know, and it may not have been as helpful as you had hoped for, but I hope it was of some use at least. :-)

Oh I'm so sorry but I run Windows 7. I should have mentioned that. Umm I tried the tool you told me about and set it to windows. It didn't work and it also didn't work after I set it to merit. Afterwards, I deleted the video and played it and this time when the screen goes black, this message pops up.
EDIT: OMG I'M SUCH AN IDIOT. WHEN THE MESSAGE APPEARED AGAIN, I THOUGHT MAYBE I SHOULD PRESS ENTER AND SEE WHAT IT WILL DO AND IT MOVED ON. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

So i just got the game, and after installing the English patch i tried opening it and got the error in error 1. If I hit OK, the game starts and the main screen is translated but when I hit new game the error 2 picture pops up, no text besides that repeating over and over. I looked through the thread and saw this on the first page, and so I tried downloading both the 2005 and 2008 versions, but nothing has changed. Do i need to be running run of the versions of the program while i play? Or is there anything else you know of? FYI i'm on windows 7 prem... thx in advance for any help!

I'm not sure about the first error message (I'd have to get someone who can read Japanese to check what it says, since I can't tell), but from the sound of things you're still able to run the game despite it. As for the second error, the link to the 2005 SP1 (x86) version of the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables that Delwack included in the readme is wrong, unfortunately (I'm still trying to get him to fix that...), and you've also not installed the 2010 version, so just to be sure I'll provide all 3 of the correct links here. Make sure you install all 3.
2005 sp1: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5638
2008 sp1: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5582
2010 sp1: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8328

If you still get the "unable to format text" message after that, let me know.

Err… having a bit of a problem here. I already installed the game and installed the patch to the file that has a bunch of Japanese symbols and the word key, but when I started up the VN it showed the font selection menu right? So I chose Times New Roman and then the text is still in Japanese. Or at least something I can’t recognize. Am I using the wrong font? Or am I opening the wrong application? I’m very confused but really want to play this. ;___;

Yo

For those having issues with 2nd July...
After the day ends and the application crashes, it's because of the OP (happened the same with Steins;Gate and Chaos:Head).
Go to the game folder open "MOV" folder and change the video name to something else.

Done...

PS: It's some problem with the video codecs installed (CCCP)... :)

Where the error occurred
Details on the error
Details on your system

1) All throughout game
2) No Japanese Voices at all. I can hear the music perfectly and I know when they are supposed to be talking because the background music lowers when Tomoyo is speaking but no audio dialogue comes out at all. This has been happening after purchasing the game and starting it. I downloaded it on my laptop to check if it is a game problem but it works on my laptop. It is a computer problem but I am not sure how to fix it for myself. Please help I sent an email to VisualArts as well but no reply. :(
3) Windows 10 Pro

You might know that the release Doki made is no longer being distributed since October last year as Tomoyo After was getting an official release.
As a result there isn't any further work being done on Doki's released version. Any errors or problems related to it won't be handled by Doki.

The official release that you can buy on Steam does support Win10.
