Hi, I didn't know where to post this so here goes
From the Doki website (highlighted on purpose):
Proposed plans:
TV will remain as is, HD and SD h264.
Blu-Ray 1080p is Hi10P, 720p and 480p is h264.
If Doki actually plans to start releasing 1080p with the new 10-bit codec, it'll be a problem at least in the cases where the CPU isn't fast enough to play 1080p releases by itself but where it is assisted by a GPU supporting CUDA.
Like in my case: I can play back 1080p releases well because of my nvidia card and its hardware decoding (without it I can only play back some 720p releases). But there is no hardware decoding available for 10-bit releases of any kind.
Is it expected to be supported by new drivers? In that case it would be a matter of time and no problem at all. Otherwise, 1080p releases would suddendly be restricted to people with high end CPUs only.
I'm only assuming Doki's future plans don't include 1080p 8-bit releases. Sorry for bringing my worries here, it's just I've been following Doki's releases for a couple of years now
Keep it up.
